AMD recently released a new BIOS for RX 5600 XT graphics cards that improved GPU frequencies and VRAM memory. However, it seems that not all models will be able to reach the frequencies of 14 GBps, like the Saphire 'Pulse' model.

Only select select AMD RX 5600 XT models will be able to run at 14GBps

Unlike motherboards, graphics cards don't usually get many vBIOS updates, especially not a few days before launch. However, AMD did just that with the RX 5600 XT and increased performance, likely in response to the price drop on Nvidia's GeForce RTX 2060.

MSI's Beurden said AMD's RX 5600 XT vBIOS increases the card's power limit, which in turn enables it to run at higher clock speeds. However , increasing memory speed was never part of the update. This means that some brands that are increasing memory from 12 Gbps to 14 Gbps are doing it on their own.

Clarifying matters further, Beurden said AMD, like Nvidia, supplies its partners with the silicon and memory chips needed to build the graphics card. For the RX 5600 XT, AMD provided validated GDDR6 memory chips to run at 12 Gbps. Although some memory chips may have an overclocking margin to run at 14 Gbps, MSI cannot guarantee the stability and longevity of its 14 Gbps RX 5600 XT graphics cards, as they were not originally designed and tested for that speed.

It also appears that not all of these charts will receive the vBIOS update. Depending on the design of the graphics card and the quality of the silicon inside, it seems that some of the entry-level models may not be able to achieve higher clock speeds.

In short, everything will depend on each of the manufacturers and the model in question. Therefore, the owners of one of these GPUs or future buyers, should be aware of the exact models they are going to buy and whether they support or have already been updated with the new clock speeds. We will keep you informed.
