AMD announced the new Ryzen 9 3950X processor. The much-rumored 16-core Ryzen 9 model was a reality and AMD has unveiled it in partnership during its E3 2019 conference.
AMD Ryzen 9 3950X reaches 5 GHz on all cores via LN2
Hours after the presentation of the Ryzen 9 3950X, it has been possible to reach 5 GHz in all the cores with this processor using LN2.
In terms of specs, AMD's Ryzen 9 3950X will feature the 7nm Zen 2 architecture. There would be three Chiplets on the Ryzen 9 that include two Zen 2 arrays and a single I / O array that is based on a 14nm process node. The AMD Ryzen 9 3950X would be fully unlocked, offering 16 cores and 32 threads. AMD is the first to bring users such a high number of cores that they used to be exclusive to HEDT platforms.
In terms of clock speeds, the AMD Ryzen 9 3950X operates at a base frequency of 3.5 GHz and boosts to 4.7 GHz. The chip will have 72 MB of total cache and a TDP 105W. When it comes to overclocking, we also know that, like all other Ryzen CPUs, the 3950X would feature a soldered design that should help provide better temperatures.

The Ryzen 9 3950X chip was overclocked at 5 GHz with a voltage of 1.608V across the 16 cores. The chip worked with LN2 and managed to break some world records. The processor was running on an MSI MEG X570 GODLIKE motherboard which will be one of the best X570 motherboards to be obtained when the platform launches in July. The processor also worked alongside a pair of 4533 MHz G.Skill Trident Z Royal (DDR4).
The three records that were broken during the overclocking session were:
- Cinebench R15: Ryzen 3950X @ 5434 points (Previous record: Core i9-9960X @ 5320 points) Cinebench R20: Ryzen 3950X @ 12167 points (Previous Record: Core i9-7960X @ 10895 points) Geekbench 4: Ryzen 3950X @ 65499 points (Record previous: Core i9-7960X @ 60991 points)
MSI managed to achieve DDR4-5100 speeds (CL18-21-21-56) and 4266 MHz is expected to be the sweet spot for most X570 line motherboards.
