We talk about AMD Ryzen again and this time we bring a news that fans of the Sunnyvale company will not like too much, the new AMD Ryzen processors would only arrive in versions with four and eight physical cores.

AMD Ryzen does not allow 6-core chips

The Zen microarchitecture used in Ryzen processors is made up of quad-core modules that respond to the name of CCX, these modules would be indivisible so all Zen-based processors should come with a number of cores multiple of four. With this the possibility of seeing processors with 6 cores and 12 threads disappears, which surely were the most attractive for users of the mid-range.

We recommend our guide to the best processors on the market.

AMD Ryzen processors will arrive in three ranges: SR7 (high-end), SR5 (mid-range) and SR3 (low-end). All pointed out that SR5 would be the chips with 6 cores and 12 threads but the new information suggests that this will not be the case. The SR3s would be 8-core, 4-core chips, the SR5s would be 8-core, 8-core chips, and finally the SR7s would be 8-core, 16-wire chips. The SR3 chips will have 8MB of L3 cache while the SR5 and SR7 will have 16MB of L3 cache. All of them will have the multiplier unlocked for overclocking.
