Nothing seems to prevent AMD Ryzen from surpassing Intel Core processors in the Korean market, since the red team has reached another milestone in its share of that country, one of the most important in Asia. According to ShopDana, AMD Ryzen processors achieved a total CPU market share of 53% versus Intel's 47% in South Korea.

AMD Ryzen maintains its leadership in South Korea

In earlier news, we talked about how AMD Ryzen processors had started selling more than Intel Core processors in the South Korean market for the first time in history, but that's not all. Ryzen's momentum continues and AMD processors gain an even greater market share than Intel in the last month of October.

In October, AMD's CPU market share in South Korea increased from 51% in September to 53% in October. Intel CPU market share fell from 49% in September to 47% in October.

47% is the lowest market share Intel has achieved in recent history before the Ryzen 3000 series was introduced. Prior to the release of AMD's Zen 2 processors, Intel enjoyed a consistent average market share of 60 %, but problems with its 14nm supply and loss of competitive advantage in the ongoing core wars and little or no IPC gains have led to its slow but steady decline.

This coincides with two other data that we can see publicly, where AMD continues to gain market share. According to CPU Benchmark, AMD Ryzen processors had a 30.3% share, while Intel Core CPUs had a 69.7% share for the fourth quarter of 2019 (data collected as of November 16). These figures refer mainly to the CPUs in use and not to the total number of CPUs sold.

Mercury Research is an independent firm of CPU market analysts that has been sharing market share reports for AMD and Intel CPUs for a while. According to the latest data, AMD's desktop CPU market share stands at 18% in the third quarter of 2019, up from 17.1% in the second quarter of 2019. This represents an increase of 0.9 % over the previous quarter and 5% over the previous year.

The trends seem pretty clear. At this time it is hard to think that AMD will not continue to gain ground in the CPU market. Intel's response with its tenth generation should be forceful. We will keep you informed.
