AMD Zen may arrive earlier than expected. After years of waiting and rumors, AMD is ready to compete again in the market for high-performance x86 processors with its new and highly anticipated Zen microarchitecture that promises 40% more IPC than the current Excavator, which if true will complicate life for Intel.

AMD Zen may arrive earlier than expected, first shipments this quarter

According to the latest reports, AMD is preparing to ship the first Zen processors within the current quarter, so their arrival on the market could occur much sooner than initially thought. The arrival of Zen should take place at the end of 2016 with the actual availability in 2017 but the first chips would arrive before the market if this news was confirmed.

AMD is already working with its main partners to include their Zen processors in the main devices that hit the market, it is also working closely with motherboard manufacturers to get their new AM4 socket- based units ready for the new microarchitecture in time.
