As you will see, it has everything an advanced user needs, so do not miss this review. And before continuing, we thank Obinslab for trusting us with his keyboard so that we can carry out our analysis.
Anne Pro 2 technical features
Unboxing
We start with this interesting product from the Chinese brand with the presentation and the Unboxing that has some interesting things. The keyboard has come to us in a white rigid cardboard box with the main specifications and the photograph of the keyboard on the outside. We see one with the white version and another in black, to make the user a bit dizzy.
Inside, we find the main product inside a cardboard mold and in turn put inside a polythene foam bag. In this way it will support the long journey ahead when we buy it.
In the bundle we find the following elements:
- 60% Anne Pro 2 keyboard Key extractor USB connection cable Spare secondary keys Installation and use instructions paper
60% ultra compact design
Of course the most significant thing about this Anne Pro 2 keyboard is that it is of a 60% configuration, that is, the smallest size of desktop keyboard that we can find on the market. This keyboard is very common for people who need maximum portability and a good-performance keyboard that has the right keys to type.
We just have to keep in mind that the keyboard is not available in Spanish configuration, only in the international Asian (without the ñ). Anyway, if we have the system in Spanish, the "Ñ" key will be ":", as always.
In this way, a configuration of 60% lacks a numeric keypad, navigation keys and row of F keys. So in total there will be 61 available keys whose functions we will be analyzing during the review. This keyboard measures 292 mm of something, 97 mm wide and 40 mm high in the highest area, weighing a total of 635 g.
ABS plastic has been used entirely for its construction, which gives us a very good quality of finishes in edges, structure and keys. The entire key panel is located within a frame of this material and built in one piece. Inside this one, we have another block finished in white that is responsible for holding the floating key panel and all the internal hardware that it carries. All 3 mm bores, which is why they practically do not exist, that is why the measurements are so extremely compact.
This Anne Pro 2 does not have legs to be extended, but has been directly configured in an inclined position to be more comfortable for the user. The lack of legs is a great advantage in terms of maneuverability, since these over time become loose and will always be disturbing. On the other hand, the advantage of being tilted makes it easier for us to access all the keys even without having armrests included. In your case, four non-slip rubber feet have been placed that eliminate vibrations and give a very good stability.
Also in the lower area we have a switch with which we can select the operating mode of the keyboard. We explain, if the switch is ON, it will mean that it will be connected by bluetooth, while if it remains OFF it will be off and will be used through a wired connection.
If we go to the front right area, we find a USB Type-C port to connect it to the PC. The cable measures are 1.8 meters in length, and the interface for the equipment will be by traditional USB Type-A. A second function of this cable is to charge the keyboard's 1900 mAh battery, which will last an acceptable time, about 8 hours with the lighting activated, although in the end it stays a little less. If we deactivate the lighting we can extend it for a few more hours.
Replacement or gaming keys and stylus
The Anne Pro 2 has 10 spare or gaming keys in the bundle which have a greater roughness than the standard ones. This improves our response and accuracy in games. In addition, counting all of them with different colors, makes it possible to identify them quickly. Of course, they do not have any screen printing at the top, so we can place them practically as we want, while they fit in the gap. These keys can be used in:
- Both capital letters Both Ctrl and both AltEsc and Windows key FN and FN2 key to handle extra keyboard functions
And of course, to extract these keys, there could also be a clamp-type extractor to be able to remove our keys very easily. It is a contraption with a handle and two metal rods that will open on their own when pushed over a key. This will automatically hook it and we only have to pull up to remove it. A gadget of 10 for this excellent keyboard.
Gateron switches
This keyboard features mechanical switches from the Chinese brand Gateron, and are considered the best imitations of the German Cherry. In fact, some users find these switches better than the original ones, so we are not talking about the typical Kailh or Outemu. So why do we find them on so few keyboards? Well, simple, because they are expensive to be copies, and the brands bet on the Outemu whenever they can.
The switches of the Anne Pro 2 that we analyzed are the Brown version. A mechanical touch-operated switch with a 45g actuation force and no audible click. In any case, it has a slight actuation sound when they reach the end of their journey, and they are not completely silent like the Reds. The main characteristic of this switch is that it presents a hybrid interaction between linear and tactile (clicky) to improve satisfaction. of the user when you press it.
The Browns are the most versatile switches, being very suitable for gaming, because it is a very easy to press mechanism and largely avoids accidental double clicks. But it also performs very well in writing, thanks to tactile action and low actuation force. And without a doubt those of this Anne Pro 2 are perfectly implemented and have given us a magnificent experience.
The manufacturer also has variants of this keyboard in Gateron Red and Blue switches. The first ones with sound and tactile clicks and the second ones oriented to gaming, silent and purely linear
Installation and functions
Let's explain a little how we can install and use this Anne Pro 2 keyboard , although we already reported that everything comes fairly well explained in the instructions.
To install it, we can well use the USB cable with the bottom switch OFF and it will act as a normal wired keyboard and in the meantime, the battery will be charging. If we prefer, we can connect it via bluetooth 4.0 to a Windows, Mac or Linux PC. It does not seem to be compatible with Android or iOS.
Something very interesting about its wireless capacity is that we can simultaneously pair it with up to 4 computers. To do this, we must turn the switch to ON, and then press FN2 + 1 until the second key flashes green (about 4 or 5 seconds). At this moment the team will locate it and it will be paired. We can repeat this same action with the keys 1, 2 3 and 4, to connect it to 4 different devices. To change teams, by pressing FN2 + 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 again and we will go to the team in question.
These are the secondary functions that we can activate with FN1:
- Arrow keys (1st form): FN1 + AWSD Key row F: FN1 + the entire top row Key panel with secondary functions (Delete, Insert, etc): FN1 and character keys in the right area
With the FN2 key we can modify the RGB lighting settings by pressing FN2 + 9, 0, -, +. We can change the lighting profile, deactivate it, lower or increase the brightness.
Lighting and customization software
The Anne Pro 2 has addressable RGB lighting in all its keys, although in principle it is not compatible with any of the technologies of plate or peripheral manufacturers. Each switch will have its own LED implemented, just like the switches from brands like Cherry. Of course, we must say that some colors represented are not completely true to reality, for example yellow is pistachio green, and there is also a wide range of shades available.
The lighting of each key can be customized independently thanks to the ObinsKit software that we can download from its official page.
The program will be available in several languages, which we can select from your preferences. The truth is that it is not too intuitive, and sometimes when we apply the changes on the keyboard the connection is lost and we must reconnect it again.
In the first section we will have very important options for usability. From this, we can activate the keyboard macros function, which we can customize from the fourth section. But also enable double function keys like Caps Lock (Caps Lk) to be able to gain some extra functions like the following.
With the installed software , two extra ways of using the arrow keys are opened:
- Directional Keys (2nd way): Caps Lock + AWSD Directional keys remain permanently active by activating the Tap option. This function is done by the Right Shift, Right Ctrl, FN1 and FN2 keys.
We can also update the firmware of the keyboard, and of course modify the functions of the keys from the second section, as well as the keyboard layout.
Final words and conclusion about Anne Pro 2
Well, we have been testing this Anne Pro 2 for a few days and the truth is that we have gotten used to it quite quickly. The configuration, design and distance of the keys are exactly the same as the rest of the keyboards on the market, so in that sense we only have to adapt to their inclination.
In my personal case, I always find it hard to adapt to the Enter key, which only takes up one space instead of two, but it is something constant on this type of keyboard 60%. Something that I did not like so much, is how sharp the keys have the edge, since when you touch one it almost punctures you a little. For me, they should be more rounded, but for tastes, colors.
For those who come from a membrane keyboard, these Gateron Brown will be a delight, since the quality of them and the little clearance that the keys have make us feel that we are on Cherry MX on a high quality keyboard. They work perfectly in gaming and writing and agility is sensational. In addition, we can choose between Brown, Blue or Red.
We recommend our guide on the best keyboards on the market
Another great quality is the possibility of managing its addressable RGB lighting or the dual function keys by software, which we have many, even with the possibility of creating macros. If it is true that it is not a 24-bit RGB and some colors are not too true to reality. This keyboard has N-Key Rollover, which allows us to press a large number of keys simultaneously.
As if that were not enough, we can connect it via USB or via Bluetooth 4.0 to up to 4 computers simultaneously, something that few keyboards offer us. Its 1900 mAh battery offers a range of just under 8 hours with the lighting on. We would have liked more autonomy, and greater capacity for its price.
We finish with the price and availability of the Anne Pro 2, and we are pleased to say that the brand is in its 13th anniversary and the price of this keyboard will be about $ 71.99 USD, about € 65.27 in exchange if we buy it at Banggod, the cheapest place where we will find it. The normal price will be $ 74.99 USD, which is not bad for everything that this 60% has, without a doubt highly recommended.
