Just a few minutes ago, we attended the Gigabyte AORUS gaming division event that unveiled to the world its 8TB AORUS AIC Gen4 SSD, an impressive NVMe storage unit under PCIe 4.0 x16 that scores about 15000 MB / s in read and writing.

The world's fastest SSD is here

Well, that's right, it is here and it comes from the hand of AORUS, a gaming division that dares with everything and proof of this is this SSD that has taken the cover of its presentation along with the new X570 motherboards for 3rd generation Ryzen.

This new SSD is installed on a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, the new generation of the PCI bus that is now capable of reaching transfer rates of 2000 MB / s for each data line both up and down. This PCI interface is now available for AMD's new X570 chipset boards for its new 7nm Ryzen processors.

AORUS has not been satisfied with taking out 6 variants of these boards that you will see on our page later today, but has also launched a colossal SSD that squeezes the possibilities of the 4.0 bus with those x16 LANES available, although not reaching its maximum power, of course.

4 SSD drives in RAID 0 X16

Well, this AORUS AIC Gen4 SSD 8TB unit has a PCIe 4.0 interface under NVMe 1.3 data protocol and a capacity of 8 TB of storage. In sight, it could well seem like a graphics card, since it has a complete fairing that hides a copper plate as a thermal solution driven by forced ventilation in the form of a turbine.

We take this opportunity to recommend our guide to the best SSDs on the market

In theoretical terms, the speed of sequential reading that this SSD will offer us will be 15, 000 MB / s, and in writing also 15, 000 MB / s, simply impressive. But let's take a closer look at its interior. We have a total of four Phison controllers on 2TB 3D NAND solid memory chips each under M.2 interface as seen in the picture. Well, each of these internal units works under PCIe x4 4.0, and up to here it is something that we already know, the novelty lies in the fact that these 16 PCI LANES unite under bus 4.0 of the new boards to get to these registers.

If we divide this 15000 MB / s performance among the four drives, we have an individual performance of 3750 MB / s significantly more than the current solid state drives, for example, the Samsung 970 Pro SSD that reaches 3500 MB / s. It is for this reason that PCIe 4.0 is going to mean a new path for high-performance SSD manufacturers to chart. What's more, AORUS has also presented an M.2 PCIO 4.0 x4 unit capable of reaching 5000 MB / s in read rates, and which we will also see here below.

We're looking forward to getting the hang of this awesome AORUS AIC Gen4 SSD 8TB to see its features first hand in Professional Review. We hope to have the opportunity very soon and share it with everyone, but no price or availability is known yet, and judging by the benefits, this SSD is going to be quite expensive. What do you think of this "hard drive"?
