Gigabyte, the world leader in the sale of PC components and peripherals, has sent us its Aorus M5 mouse and the Aorus P7 RGB mat. It is a combination that will allow us to wipe out the battlefield, with a mouse equipped with the best sensor on the market, and a mat that is the perfect base for sliding. All this without forgetting the touch of RGB light. Do not miss our analysis in Spanish.
First of all, we thank Aorus for giving us the products for analysis.
Aorus M3 and Aorus P7 technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The Aorus M5 mouse comes to us in a fairly small cardboard box, as we see in the photos, the color black predominates, although we also see a few touches of orange, a combination that corresponds to the corporate colors of Aorus. As for the mat, the box has the same design, although logically it is larger. The manufacturer has taken advantage of the surface of both boxes to put several high-resolution images, and the most important characteristics.
We take the mouse out of the box, and we also find the documentation and five three-gram weights to be able to adjust its weight in a very simple way. The mat comes with documentation and a detachable USB cable to connect it to the PC.
We first look at the Aorus M5 mouse, it has dimensions of 128 mm x 72 mm 43 mm and a weight of 118-130.5 grams without the cable, which we can adjust thanks to the weights attached to us by Gigabyte. The mouse works with a 1.8 meter rubberized cable for great resistance and with a gold plated USB connector.
The Aorus M5 is based on an ambidextrous design, which will adapt very well to the hands of all users, both right and left-handed, although it is more thought for right-handers by having only additional buttons on the left side as we will see later. The body of the mouse is made of high quality black plastic, although it also has some metal touches that help make it more robust, and give it a more premium look.
At the top we find the two main buttons, with the acclaimed Japanese OMRON mechanisms that ensure at least 50 million keystrokes. The two buttons are slightly curved to offer a much more comfortable grip and are perfectly accessible to the fingers without any effort. Next to them we see two programmable buttons, which are configured at the factory to set the DPI mode of the sensor to 800/1200/1600/2400 DPI. The wheel is also made in black and offers excellent performance with very precise movements, the grip on the finger is also very good when it is rubberized.
On the left side we find the typical two programmable buttons that will help us perform all kinds of tasks. Its touch is pleasant and they are quite hard so they give us a good quality feeling. We also find four small LEDs that serve as an indicator of the selected DPI mode. On the back we find the logo of the brand that this time is part of the lighting system.
At the bottom is the high-precision Pixart PMW 3989 optical sensor with a maximum sensitivity of 16, 000 DPI. This sensor features a sampling rate of up to 400 inches per second and 50 g of acceleration. It is the best sensor on the market, so this mouse will offer us the maximum precision that can be achieved today with optical technology. In this lower area we can also put the weights attached by the brand, for this you just have to remove the cover of this area.
As for the Aorus P7 mat, it has a rigid design, so we cannot fold it. Gigabyte encloses a 2-meter, twisted and detachable USB cable to offer great resistance, as well as greater comfort when traveling to our friends or tournaments with the mat.
The base is made of non-slip rubber, thanks to which it will be very stable on the table and will not move a single mm. The surface is plastic, and is optimized to work perfectly with both laser and optical mice. Aorus P7 integrates an RGB LED lighting system, both in the outline and in the logo on the top.
Aorus Engine Software
Both products can be used without the need to install any application, although we recommend using it to get the most out of it, especially in the case of the mouse. The software can be downloaded from the official website of the manufacturer, once downloaded its installation is extremely simple.
The first section of the software allows us to configure the mouse lighting in 16.8 million colors, various light effects, intensity levels and the speed in case we choose the breathing mode. The application offers us the possibility of managing up to five different profiles to always have our mouse ready for different situations of use. The software also allows us to assign the functions that we want to its seven programmable buttons in a very simple and intuitive way.
We find own mouse functions, macros, multimedia and even assign characters to the buttons so that we can enter a letter, a symbol or a number among others in a very simple way. This software offers us a complete and powerful macro engine with functions such as the control of the delay time of a pulsation, different speeds and loops among many others. The last section allows us to adjust the four levels of mouse DPI to our liking, from 50 DPI to 16, 000 DPI, always from 50 to 50 in order to have a very fine adjustment.
As for the Aorus P7 mat, it only offers us the lighting adjustment options, of course we did not expect to find anything else. Again we are talking about an RGB system, so the options are very varied. This is how both products are illuminated:
Final words and conclusion about Aorus M5 and Aorus P7
Aorus M5 is a mouse with a top quality design, and has been thought to fit the hand like a glove, especially the right hand. The body of the mouse is very robust, giving a feeling of great quality and that it will not break in a short time. Ergonomics is very good, in my case it adapts perfectly to my palm type grip, although I think it will adapt quite well to all grips.
Its Pixart PMW 3989 optical sensor offers excellent performance, it's the best sensor on the market, so it's no surprise to discover that it works so well. The Aorus Engine software will allow us to get the most out of this sensor, as well as all the programmable mouse buttons. The Aorus macro manager is one of the best we've seen.
The Aorus P7 mouse pad is the perfect complement for this mouse, as it offers us a perfect surface to take full advantage of its advanced sensor. The only drawback that we can see is that it is quite small, so if you use a low sensitivity on the mouse sensor, you may tend to go outside the limits of the mat.
