Microsoft is finalizing the next major Windows 10 update codenamed Redstone 4, which would eventually be released under the official name Windows 10 April 2018 Update. After a delay in launching due to BSOD problems, several Reddit users claim that a new error causes the setup application to crash.

Settings app has issues in Windows 10 April 2018 Update

The setup app crashes without any error when trying to change the default apps, something for which there is no solution at this time. Apparently, the error appears on several systems, suggesting that it is a fairly widespread problem.

This problem only affects systems running Build Windows 10 17134, although it seems that not all users are experiencing it. If your PC is running Build 17134, you can check the error by starting Settings and navigating to Applications> Default applications> Set default values by application. As soon as you click "Set Defaults by Application", the Settings app will crash. It is one of the worst UWP applications since there is no easy way to trace the error.

For now, there is no official solution available, although rebooting the system repeatedly fixes the problem for some users. This bug shouldn't be a big deal for Microsoft as the company could easily address it with a cumulative update. However, it could delay the release of the Windows 10 April 2018 update, scheduled for later this month.

We will have to wait a bit to know the solution to this new problem, and if it means a new delay in the release of the update.
