It is not the first time that this topic has been discussed, but it seems that it will not be as radical as some people thought. Apple intends to use ARM coprocessors on its Macs to improve user security, something very different from the idea of replacing Intel chips that was talked about so much a couple of years ago.

Apple intends to use an ARM processor to control the Touch ID sensor and Touch Bar of the Macbook Pro and iMac Pro, computers that already integrate an Apple T1 and Apple T2 chip respectively to control the functions of the stereo speakers, the microphone, fans, camera and internal storage.
The idea of replacing Intel's processors with Apple's own ARM-based designs isn't outlandish after all, either. Microsoft already has Windows 10 computers with Snapdragon 835 processors, these have shown very good performance and, above all, exceptional battery life and unattainable for Intel processors, at least in equal power.
Perhaps over time, the possibility will appear that Apple will migrate all the computers to the full use of the ARM architecture, although it will not be easy to maintain the level of performance of the best Intel processors.
