Arcturus would be the successor of amd navi
Table of contents:
It is not yet known when the AMD Navi graphic architecture will hit the market, and there is already talk of what will be its successor. Arcturus is the fourth brightest star in the night sky, and could be the name for AMD's new GPU architecture, which will succeed Navi, according to a Phoronix report.
Arcturus would be the name chosen for the successor architecture of AMD Navi
The Navi successor codename has circumvented the AMD roadmap slides. The name Arcturis appeared on the Phoronix community forums, from a link post. The code name is also supported by the fact that AMD is naming its GPU architectures, using the brightest stars in the sky. Polaris is the brightest, followed by Vega, Navi, and Arcturus.
We recommend reading our post about AMD Navi is not a high-end architecture, it will happen to Polaris
AMD last referenced Navi's successor in a roadmap slide during his 2017 Financial Analyst Day presentation by Mark Papermaster. That slide mentions that Vega will be built on two silicon manufacturing processes, 14nm and 14nm +. We now know that AMD intends to build a 7nm Vega chip, which could be the world's first 7nm GPU. Navi is slated to be built at 7nm as the process becomes increasingly prevalent in the industry. The same slide mentions Navi's successor as built at 7nm +, which could refer to an even more advanced process than 7nm.
The arrival of this Navi successor would not take place until 2020 at least, so there is still a long time to go, and we are sure to see a lot of rumors and leaks before that.
Techpowerup fontNavi 16, navi 12, navi 10 and navi 9 are revealed in the macos code
A very interesting finding, since it reveals different GPU models for this architecture, that is; Navi 16, Navi 12, Navi 10 and Navi 9.
Amd arcturus appears in hwinfo and would give life to the gpus radeon instinct
The HWiNFO tool already has preliminary support for the Arcturus GPU, which will bring this new generation Radeon Instinct to life.
Nvidia ampere, the successor of turing would arrive within 9 months
It seems the time has finally come for Nvidia to abandon Turing's 12nm process to make the jump to 7nm with Ampere.
