Arm announces the mali-t880, the corelink cci interconnector
ARM has announced three highest performance components that will be part of the new generation of mobile SoCs that use their designs. These are the Mali-T880 GPU, the Cortex A72 core, and the CoreLink CCI-500 interconnect.
The ARM Cortex A72 core will arrive to succeed the current Cortex A57 improving energy efficiency. It will be manufactured with TSMC's 16nm FinFET process and will be 3.5 times more powerful than Cortex A15 (28nm planar) consuming 75% less energy with the same workload. Cortex A72 will arrive in big.LITTLE configuration with Cortex A53 to further enhance the SoC's energy efficiency.
For its part, Mali-T880 offers 1.8 times the power of Mali T-760 with 40% lower power consumption, the GPU has been designed with 4K content in mind.
Finally, the CoreLink CCI-500 interconnector will allow the big.LITTLE configuration between Cortex A72 and Cortex A53, increasing memory performance by 30% and doubling the peak bandwidth of the system compared to the current CCI-400 interconnector it replaces.
These three new components will be used by MediaTek, HiSilicon and Rockchip among others.
