Through a press release, ASUS has unveiled two new gaming keyboards, the ROG Strix CTRL and the TUF Gaming K7, both with mechanical keys.
ROG Strix CTRL - Mechanical Keys and New Xccurate Design
The fact that ASUS has named this keyboard as ' ROG Crtl ' is obvious if we look at the control key located on the lower left side. According to the manufacturer, the Ctrl key is of vital importance in current games, that's why, with its Xccurate design, they have decided to make this key wider, equaling the Shift key, which is also very important in a host of PC video games..
ASUS ROG created the Xccurate layout in the Strix CTRL by expanding the Ctrl key, making it as wide as the left Shift key, and adding two side stabilizers to improve precision. To accommodate the extra size, the right Windows key was removed. Most players disable that key anyway to avoid accidentally activating the Start menu in the heat of battle. The left Windows key was also shortened to avoid unintentional touches.
The ROG Strix CTRL features RGB LEDs per key, plus an illuminated ROG logo. Plus, there's Aura Sync support to sync that lighting with other components.
The keyboard is configurable with Cherry MX RGB Red, Brown, Blue, Black, Speed Silver and 'Silent Red' keys which is the quietest.
ASUS TUF Gaming K7 with optical-mechanical keys
The TUF Gaming K7 keyboard offers a unique combination of lightness and speed thanks to its TUF optical-mechanical keys, as well as strength and durability with a metal construction and IP56 protection measures.
Optical-mechanical keys are like conventional mechanical keys in terms of their internal moving parts. The difference is in how they tell the PC that a key has been pressed. A key on a standard mechanical keyboard has two metal parts that touch to send the signal. TUF optical-mechanical keys employ an infrared light beam. When you press a key, the axis of the switch interrupts the light beam and activates the action. Metal contact points require a built-in bounce delay of about 5 ms to prevent one keystroke from being recorded as multiple. But the optical design has no such limitations and acts much faster, with only 0.2ms delay.
The per key RGB lighting can be controlled with the Armory II software. Furthermore, the Aura Sync compatibility allows TUF Gaming K7 to participate in the 'ROG gaming lightshow'. The metal top plate is not just for looks and provides firm structural integrity.
ROG Strix CTRL and ASUS TUF Gaming K7 will be available during January 2019.
