Asus is not satisfied with taking out an extensive range of ATX boards for the X570 chipset at Computex 2019, and two more gaming-oriented models have been added in mini DTX format with the Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Impact and ITX format with Asus ROG Strix X570- I Gaming. We tell you all its news.

High class boards in small formats with X570 chipset

And is that currently there are many users who choose to assemble their own gaming computers in small formats and one of the keys is to acquire an ITX size bale or its Mini-DTX variant. This format is a hybrid between a Micro-ATX and an ITX where the board is as narrow as an ITX, but a little longer, and can house more elements in them in addition to the dedicated GPU.

Regarding the novelties that they bring, we are not going to make too much emphasis, since they are practically the same as the other plates. Firstly, support for PCIe 4.0 thanks to the new X570 chipset and an improved VRM in which the power phases have been increased to improve the cooling capacity and power. And secondly, the improved wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi 6 under an M.2 card.

SO-DIMM.2 with Heatsink

So, without further ado let's see these two new gaming models to see more in depth what they bring us.

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Impact

Well, we are dealing with a motherboard in Mini-DTX format, the one we have discussed before, which presents us with a truly original and different design. Along with an expansion card that appears in the photos, we have a VRM completely protected by a large heatsink that also has active cooling through two fans and Asus AURA RGB LED lighting both in this area and on the right side.

Looking at the specs, we have a typical configuration of two DIMM slots that support 64GB of 3800MHz RAM and just one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot that will be used to house a GPU. And we say a GPU, because this board does not have integrated video connections, so a dedicated graphics card will be necessary. Isn't that enough proof that it is a gaming board?

So we continue, now going to the storage area, with two M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots with size 2280, one front and one rear. On the back panel we have interesting connectivity, thanks to 5 USB 3.1 gen2 Type-A and one Type-C, in addition to another 2 USB 3.1 Gen1.

Wired network connectivity consists of a 10/100/1000 Mb / s RJ-45 port thanks to an Intel I211AT chip. And wireless fortunately is also Wi-Fi thanks to the Intel Wireless-AX 200 card that supports 2 × 2 dual band MU-MIMO connections at 2400 Mbps at 5 Ghz and Bluetooth 5.0. We also have the high-end Realtek S1220 sound chip with SupreFX and Sonic Studio.

Asus ROG Strix X570-i Gaming

The second motherboard we have is from the Strix Gaming range, and in this case it is in a pure ITX format.

It also has two DIMM slots that support 64 GB of 3800 MHz DDR4 RAM and a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot to install GPUs. In this case, your presence will not be strictly necessary, since we do have HDMI and DisplayPort video connectors that support a UHD resolution at 60 Hz as it should be. The main storage configuration consists of two M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, one in the front, and one in the rear, in addition to 4 SATA 6 Gbps protocol connectors.

The rear panel offers a total of 3 USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-A and one Type-C ports, along with 4 USB 3.1 Gen1. It is more or less the same as we have in the rest of the Strix range under the X570 chipset.

And in the case of an ITX board, wireless connectivity will be mandatory, with Wi-Fi 6 obviously to follow the path of its older sisters. Although in this case we are left with only a normal and current 1000 Mb / s RJ-45 connector. The sound chip is again Realtek S1220A using an M.2 card for reasons of space.

Availability

Well, like the other motherboards that have been presented at Computex 2019 along with these, they will not see the light until the first fortnight of July, just when the powerful 3rd generation Ryzen that we had the pleasure of meeting at the opening ceremony come out of this great event.
