Asus ROG Ryuo 240 is an AIO liquid cooling that arrives as part of Asus' strategy to quickly consolidate itself in this sector of the market. For its creation, Asus has partnered with the best manufacturers, so we can expect a product of high quality and performance at a high level.
First of all, we thank Asus for the trust placed in us when transferring the product to us for analysis.
Asus ROG Ryuo 240 technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The packaging of the Asus ROG Ryuo 240 is really excellent, something that is usually common in all ROG series products. Not only does it have all the colors and branding associated with them, but the front of the packaging provides a nice big picture of the heatsink including the radiator, the fans and the CPU block so we can fully appreciate everything.
The back of the box provides all the key features and specifications of the products, all in a pleasant, easy to understand, and very high quality imagery. The information provided is excellent and informs everything you need to know about this heatsink quickly, such as the addition of an OLED screen to monitor parameters, fans or compatibility.
The box opens from the front edge and is beautifully designed, displaying your logo at an angle. We have seen this ASUS ROG design many times and we never cease to be impressed with this little extra touch. All the elements of this bundle are perfectly arranged and protected to avoid damage during transport through a cardboard mold system with separate compartments for each element. In turn, all of them are put where plastic bags. In total the bundle includes:
- Asus ROG RYUO 240Pack Heatsink Screw & Bracket Accessory 2 x ROG Ryuo Fan 120mm Fans USB Cable for Software Control Thermal Compound (Pre-Applied) Quick Start Guide
One thing to keep in mind is that the adapter for the TR4 socket will not come included in the pack, but we will have it available in the accessory package that you saw with CPU or motherboard. We should count on him, in any case.
Out of the box, the heatsink looks quite similar to many other 240mm AIO liquid coolers. The radiator itself has a fairly simple design to look at, although when you look closer at it things get a lot more interesting. It is an aluminum radiator, with a design of ultra fine fins and with a high density of them, which have the purpose of increasing the surface of heat exchange with the air generated by the fans as much as possible.
The entire radiator block is built to a very high quality, and is fully sealed to minimize liquid evaporation as much as possible. This water-air exchanger has measures of 272 mm long by 121 mm wide and 27 mm thick, not counting the fans. We already imagine that we are facing a configuration of 240 mm.
Two 38 cm rubber tubes come from the radiator that connect it to the CPU block, these tubes are responsible for transporting the cooling fluid throughout the entire heatsink assembly. These are very high quality tubes, with a flexible enough design and braided to improve sealing and prevent deterioration.
The pump block is, without a doubt, one of the most important features of this Asus ROG Ryuo 240 heatsink. Initially it looks pretty standard, though clearly well built, which is important. Then we will see that appearances are deceiving and this block has the odd surprise. However, if we look more closely we see that the pump head has a fairly large number of connectors included: fan connectors, SATA for power, and a separate USB connector that is used to operate the lighting effects.
The base of this CPU block is made of high-quality pure electrolytic copper, a material that is an excellent conductor of heat. The entire surface is very well polished, which is important in order to ensure the best possible contact with the IHS of the processor. Its design is circular as in most models, and the size should allow excellent coverage for all processors with what it is compatible. The measurements of this head are 80 x 80 x 45 mm.
Inside the block there is a microchannel design, which achieves the maximum contact surface between copper and the liquid that circulates inside the set. This design ensures that the capacity to absorb the heat generated by the processor is the maximum possible, thus offering the best possibilities for overclocking the user. The outside area is entirely made of high quality aluminum.
The upper part of the Asus ROG Ryuo 240 includes a small 1.77 ”color LiveDash OLED screen, which can be easily customized from the Asus software. This software, which is also called LiveDash, will be in charge of providing the customization options for the LiveDash OLED screen and the Asus Aura Sync RGB lighting effects of the base. We can select the system parameters we want, such as CPU and water temperatures, fan RPM or CPU frequency and voltage. They are certainly interesting and necessary options.
We can also insert images or GIF animations that we want to visualize, provided they are 160 x 120 pixels in size, and control the RGB lighting effects of the circular base of the pumping block from a very intuitive interface.
Asus ROG Ryuo 240 ships with 2 Asus designed ROG Ryuo Fan 120mm fans. These have no RGB lighting effect, so in terms of presentation they are fairly straightforward, although their design makes them quite pleasing to the eye. When installed on the radiator, the ASUS ROG mark is visible in the center of the fans.
What interests us about fans are their performance, and these models more than fulfill their function. Asus promises us that they are capable of rotating at a speed between 800 and 2500 RPM, generating an air flow of 80.95 CFM and a static pressure of 5.0 mmH2O, all with a maximum noise of 37 dBa and with PWM capacity under connection of four phases.
LGA 1151 socket installation
As for the compatibility section of this Asus ROG Ryuo 240, the sockets to which we can install this impressive block are:
- Intel: LGA 1150, 1151, 1152, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011, 2011-3, 2066AMD: AM4, TR4
In short, the current and most used sockets of the moment, with absences such as the old Intel 775 or AMD's AM2 and AM3.
Since we are going to mount liquid cooling on the LGA 1151 socket, we will need the following accessories. The rear bracket, nuts and walkways to fix it to the block. The last screws (the ones that are not symmetrical) are for the LGA 2011-3 / LGA 2066 socket .
We turn the motherboard over and insert the bracket into the installation holes. We return the motherboard to its natural position…
And we install the 4 anchors to fix the bracket against the base plate.
As we can see in this image.
We remove the plastic protector from the block and tighten the nuts until we can not force it anymore. It is time to install the cables and the radiator in our chassis.

To test the actual performance of the heatsink we are going to stress with the powerful Intel Core i9-9900k at stock speed. As usual, our tests consist of 72 uninterrupted hours of work in stock values, since being a ten-core processor and with high frequencies, temperatures can be high.
In this way, we can observe the highest temperature peaks and the average that the heatsink reaches. We must bear in mind that when playing or using other types of software, the temperature will drop dramatically between 7 to 12ºC.
How are we going to measure the processor temperature? For this test we will use the internal sensors of the processor under the supervision of the HWiNFO64 application in its latest version. We believe it is one of the best monitoring software that exists today. Without further delay, we leave you the results obtained:
Overclocking tests
We did not want to lower the level of our analyzes and we have also done a stock vs overclock performance test on the i9-9900k. Remember that these processors are welded between the ide and the IHS.
So the temperatures are somewhat high, because of the thickness of the CPU DIE. With a good delid and redelid, we would improve between 7 to 10 ºC maximum. However, we leave you the temperatures obtained:
Overclock test | Idle | Full |
I9 9900k @ 5 GHz on all its cores | 33 ºC | 68 ºC |
software
Software is key in this cooling kit. In the first section it allows us to activate key data in the panel to quickly visualize while we play: Processor frequency, voltage, temperatures, fan speed and liquid cooling.
Keep in mind that the maximum number of characteristics that we can reflect in the block is five.
It also allows us to customize images or animations in the block. Can we create our own block with a photo of ourselves or an animated gif? When we start the computer we have the possibility to customize "the banner" or even the RGB lighting style and its effects.
Final words and conclusion about Asus ROG Ryuo 240
The Asus ROG Ryuo 240 is a compact liquid cooler that offers great performance. Among its most important features we find a 240 mm aluminum surface, a pump that incorporates a small display to customize our cooling block and a low surface with RGB lighting.
Little details always make a difference. Both pipes have a length of 38 cm and come fully meshed, in this way we will get anywhere in our chassis (reasonably) and we will have a premium physical appearance.
The LiveDash OLED screen is fully customizable. With a size of 1.77 inches, we can insert any 160 x 128 pixel JPEG or Gif image. We can also add additional information such as voltage, fan speed, frequencies and temperatures. It is no longer necessary, install applications while we play, the block throws us all the information collected from the BIOS.
We recommend reading the best liquid refrigerations
If we have more components compatible with Aura Sync technology (RGB lighting) we can synchronize the block with it. We also liked the compatibility with all Intel and AMD sockets.
We have been able to verify that at a performance level, its temperatures are very good. Obtaining with the i9, both at rest and in full extraordinary temperatures.
Currently its price in online stores ranges from 179 euros for the double radiator kit and 149 euros for the single. They have a slightly higher price than other manufacturers, but it is the extra cost that we must pay for a customizable screen. What do you think of him? Do you like it as much as we do?
