Asus ROG STRIX X299-E GAMING technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The Asus ROG STRIX X299-E It comes in a standard size box. On its cover we find the Republic of Gamers logo in the upper left corner and an image of the motherboard that we have acquired. While in the lower area we have all the certifications that this great motherboard incorporates.
In the rear area we have all the most important specifications and features detailed. Everything looks great! We continue!
Inside we find the following bundle
- Asus ROG STRIX X299-E motherboard. Back plate. Instruction manual and quick guide. CD disk with drivers. SATA Cable Set. SLI HB ROG cable. Voltage measurement cable. Wifi antenna. Vertical support for connect M.2 disk.
The new Asus ROG STRIX X299-E is presented with an LGA 2066 socket and a top of the range Intel X299 chipset to host the new Intel Kaby Lake-X and Intel Skylake-X processors manufactured in 14nm and that are becoming the new reference in high performance systems.
It has an ATX format with dimensions of 30.4 cm x 22.4 cm and its design is really beautiful and elegant. I think it is a great success on the part of Asus the incorporation of this design, which combines with any ROG component or from another manufacturer.
Rear view for the most curious readers.
As is customary for past generations, dissipation is divided into two zones: power phases and one for the new X299 chipset. It has a total of 8 power phases supported by Extreme Engine Digi + technology, 10K Black Metallic protection in its capacitors , MicroFine Alloy Chokes and Power Block MOSFET.
Additionally, the board includes four extra power pins that perfectly complement the 24-pin ATX connector and the 8 + 4-pin EPS connector to ensure the best possible overclocking on both the CPU and RAM.
A total of 8 Quad Channel compatible DDR4 RAM sockets are available up to 128GB with frequencies up to 4133 Mhz and XMP 2.0 profile. Although pay special attention, since if you use an Intel Core i5-7640X processor or the Intel Core i7-7740X it will limit you to 64GB of RAM and the connection between the memories will be Dual Channel. If this is your case, you will have to install the 4 modules together in the first 4 slots (the ones in the photo).
For graphics card lovers the Asus Strix X299-E will not disappoint with its three PCI-Express 3.0 slots that will allow you to install up to 3 AMD or Nvidia graphics cards for flawless performance in the most demanding games on the market. It is complemented by two PCI Express x4 connections and one PCI Express x1.
The PCI Express Slots are reinforced with a metal armor to better cushion heavy graphics cards, as well as improving transfer by up to 16%. Every improvement is always good
Regarding high-speed storage, it has two slots for the M.2 NVMe connection that allows us to install any SSD of this format with the measures 2242/2260/2280/22110 (42/60/80 and 110mm). Allowing us to make a RAID 0 and have a read / write of vertigos.
The second SLOT M.2 incorporates a heatsink that allows us to have excellent temperatures. For this reason I recommend connecting it here, since we can lower it from 12 to 20ºC depending on the SSD we have.
It incorporates a sound card with SupremeFX technology with the new S1220 codec that isolates component interference (EMI) much faster and better. It also incorporates the best quality Nichicon capacitors, an ES9023 DAC that allows us to connect high-end headphones with an impedance of up to 600Ω.
Let's not forget that it also incorporates a total of 8 SATA III connections at 6Gbp / s that allows us to have enough conventional SSDs and hard drives.
Finally, we leave you all the rear connections that it integrates:
- 1 x Intel LAN. 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-A + USB Type-C4 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 (blue) 2 x USB 2.0.1 x Optical S / PDIF. 5 x Digital Audio Out. 1 x USB BIOS Flashback1 x ASUS Wi-Fi GO! module (Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac and Bluetooth v4.0 / 3.0 + HS)

BIOS
Asus has released very stable BIOSes on this first day of release. Excellent overclocking capacity (manual, offset and adaptive), memories set at 3200 MHz without any problem, excellent performance and with all the possibilities that we saw in the Asus Rampage V Extreme . Betting on Asus in this aspect is betting on the winning horse.
Final words and conclusion about Asus ROG STRIX X299-E
The Asus ROG STRIX X299-E is positioned on the best quality / price motherboard on the market. Thanks to its 8 phases of maximum quality power, its sober but elegant design, its overclocking capacity, storage possibilities, connectivity and super stable BIOS.
In our test bench we have used a 10-core Intel Core i9-7900X, 32 GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM and a GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. The results in both Full HD, 2K and 4K is incredible. We have also overclocked up to 4.3 GHz, being at the height of the best motherboards on the market.
But it is not only overclocking, it also incorporates very interesting improvements such as the SupremeFX sound card, Intel signed network card and Wi-Fi 802.11AC connectivity.
Its RRP will be 359 euros and is available today in the main pre-sale stores. Stockage is expected for next June 26. Have no doubts, for us the best of the best in this release.
