Data is emerging from a new AMD Navi GPU that has not yet been announced and could be 'Big Navi'. An unworn GPU that is allegedly based on AMD's next-generation Navi 'Radeon RX' GPU architecture has been leaked by Twitter user CyberPunkCat .
Big Navi: 5120 cores, 24 GB HBM2e and 2 TB / s of bandwidth
Twitter user CyberPunkCat claims to have sources at SK Hynix who provided him with a fact sheet specifying this new AMD flagship to launch in 2020.
We know from previous reports that AMD has already promised us a new generation of 7nm + Navi and a 7nm upgrade line of Radeon RX graphics cards in 2020. The 7nm upgrade line would replace existing graphics cards with a slimmer design, while Enthusiasts will be very eager for the 7nm + line of GPUs that will reportedly include the long-awaited "Big Navi" chip.
Surprisingly, the document lists the complete GPU and memory configurations. For the GPU itself, we are looking at 5120 SPs or cores with 80 compute units. The GPU consists of a total of 320 TMUs and 96 ROPs. The chip's L2 cache size is also a whopping 12MB. That's 2 times the cache of the Tesla V100 GPU and Titan's RTX. It's also 3x the cache size of AMD's RX 5700 XT, which is based on the Navi 10 GPU. No clock speeds mentioned for this piece, but memory settings are listed.
In terms of memory, we are talking about 24 GB of high-performance HBM2e. The GPU would have a 4096-bit bus interface and reportedly up to 2 Terabytes per second of bandwidth. The new HBM2e standard was introduced a while back and both SK Hynix and Samsung have accelerated production this year as we look forward to the arrival of new HPC parts from both NVIDIA and AMD.
