People have seen a brand new Radeon RX Navi GPU in AMD's subnet that appears to be much faster than NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. We would be talking about the hypothetical Big Navi.

Big Navi would be 17% more powerful than the RTX 2080 Ti

The GPU was paired with a Ryzen 7 4800H processor and had no name in sight, so it's likely a prototype or early engineering sample of what the supposed Big Navi GPU is supposed to be.

The graphics card appeared in the OpenVR Benchmark database and, surprisingly, is tested with a configuration consisting of an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor that is part of the red company's line of laptop processors. Development and engineering samples are tested with weird test setups, so this is most likely the case here, but the most surprising detail is the performance numbers this card is capable of delivering.

The results published in OpenVR

The comparison was made in the CyubeVR benchmark at a resolution of 1512 × 1680 with an HTC Vive MV HMD (90 Hz), the unknown and unworn GPU achieves a score of 103.32 FPS, while the fastest GeForce RTX 2080 Ti from NVIDIA, on the same leaderboard, 'only' manages to deliver 88.10 FPS. This represents a 17% performance increase over NVIDIA's flagship graphics card. There are also inputs for the RTX 2070 and GTX 1660 Ti, but those tests were done at low resolution and nothing quite as demanding as what was tested with the RTX 2080 Ti and AMD GPU.

NVIDIA has generally had an edge when it comes to RV performance, so AMD's GPU edge could be greater in the non-RV gaming arena. However, we can only speculate that these results will be transferred as is to the traditional video game scenario.

AMD promised that there would be a high-end Navi GPU this year and possibly this mysterious graphics card. We will keep you informed.
