Since the announcement of the Coffee Lake processors, there has been talk of the arrival of a Z390 chipset, to be one step above the Z370, which is the current top of the range of this platform. The arrival of this chipset would be accompanied by new eight-core processors.

Intel Z390 chipset is real

Biostar has confirmed the arrival of the Z390 chipset with the release of a combined Z390GT3 / B360GT3S manuals, which provide official documentation on the alleged new Intel high-end chipset. The following image shows the diagram of the Biostar Z390 GT3 motherboard, which is based on an LGA 1151 socket, along with the Z390 chipset, to support eighth generation Intel Core processors with a TDP of up to 95W.

With the arrival of eight-core processors in Intel's mainstream range, the maximum core count offered by AMD with its Ryzen processors would be equaled. It seems that the benefits of AMD chips have forced Intel to take an important step forward, abandoning the four cores that it had been offering at most in the mainstream range for more than 10 years.

We will be on the lookout for new information on the alleged eight-core Coffee Lake processors for the LGA 1151 socket.
