Intel confirms the existence of the z390 for coffee lake and cannon lake
Table of contents:
A few weeks ago Biostar had hinted (unintentionally) about the Intel Z390 chipset and we were rubbing our hands. Now it can be said that the existence of the chipset is practically official, thanks to documentation from the North American company itself.
Z390 Chipset Motherboards Coming Soon
The Z390 and the rest of the 300 series chipsets will support Coffee Lake (CFL) and Cannon Lake (CNL) CPUs, according to an Intel document. Cannon Lake will be the chip that will succeed the current Coffee Lake and will be manufactured at 10 nm. This will be an optimized version of what is now known as Coffee Lake and it is a silicon that Intel has been working on for quite some time.
The document also revealed the existence of Cannon Lake and Coffee Lake in their HEDT versions designed for the X399 chipset. Intel was expected to omit this codename since AMD had already taken it for the first-generation Threadripper, but it looks like they will be using it anyway.
The file, therefore, suggests that both the Z390 and X399 chipsets are already in close proximity. We will likely be able to see the first Z390 motherboards at this year's Computex, to be held starting June 5 in Taipei. We will bring you all the news about these motherboards and the X399 platform as soon as we know more.
