How to specify the type of activity in the Apple Watch training app

When you open the "Training" application on your Apple Watch, the main screen offers you by default 10 types of training so that you can quickly select the exercise you are preparing to do: Walking, Running, Cycling, Elliptical, Rowing, Swimming… But if you are going to do another type of exercise that is not among the preselected, you can configure a personalized activity using the tenth option on the main screen, called Other.

Choose your activity on Apple Watch

When you select the "Other" option, you will be able to choose from over 60 different training categories. Also, once you have saved a workout by assigning it one of these categories, that type of workout will later appear on the main Training screen as a quick start option so that you can easily use it whenever you need to.

The full list of activities you can choose from is: water aerobics, martial arts, athletics, badminton, dance, basketball, handball, baseball, bowling, boxing, hunting, cycling, cricket, body and mind, curling, water sports, sports with shovel, snow sports, equestrian sports, mixed aerobics, roller exercises, step exercises, abdominal exercises, ballet exercises with barre, strength exercises, cross training, functional training, climbing, stairs, fencing, alpine skiing, cross country skiing, flexibility, football, American football, Australian football, gymnastics, golf, hockey, play, kickboxing, lacrosse, fight, sailing, skating, fishing, pilates, racquetball, rugby, jump rope, hiking, snowboarding, softball, squash, surfing, tai chi, table tennis, tennis, archery, volleyball, water polo and yoga.

How to categorize an activity in the training app

  • Start the Training application on your Apple Watch. Scroll to the bottom of the list of activity types and select "Other." Train fully and, once you have completed the activity you want to register, press Finish. As usual you will see the summary. At that time press Name and select one of the options that appear in the list. Press Save.
  • From then on, this activity will appear in your start list with its own icon.
