Already from the first versions of Windows that implemented the desktop, there was the possibility of taking screenshots. With Windows 10 Microsoft's have taken a twist and now we can not only do this, but we can also record our screen and feel like "youtubers" for real.

The application that we are going to use is available from the factory, as part of the Xbox Live gaming platform. Its name is Xbox Game DVR.

Game DVR limitations

This application has only one drawback, and that is that it is not capable of recording the desktop as such of your Windows 10. We will have the possibility to record practically any application, including our web browser, but we cannot leave the selected application to record. For example, if we decide to record Microsoft Word, it will record what we do inside it, but what we do outside, such as the desktop, folder navigation, etc. do not.

This is because the application is designed to record games mainly, and not to perform the typical tutorials as this could be.

Game DVR activation

If more preamble we are going to start. It is possible that Game DVR is not active in our Windows 10 (at least in the latest version it will be active by default).

We are going to go to the Start menu and write "Xbox". We will get the application with this name, so we access it.

If we have never accessed it before, it will ask us to register or to start with an Xbox Live or Microsoft account.

Once inside we are going to go to the configuration wheel located in the vertical menu on the left of the application. Within this we choose "Captures" or in previous versions "Game DVR". To open the configuration we must click on "Windows Configuration".

It will ask us if we want to change the application to access the configuration, we say yes.

Next, we will get the Game DVR configuration window in which we can modify the quality of our videos, the recording mode and different options that we have.

The default directory where our recordings will be stored will be inside the folder of our user in "Captures". In addition, we can record up to two hours of video and in a quality of 60 fps.

In other versions of the application, a button will be shown that will enable or disable the program, in our case it will always be active and ready for use.

A bar will open at the bottom of the screen where we can perform different actions:

  • Screen capture: with the keys "Windows" + "Alt" + "Print Screen " Record screen: with the keys "Windows" + "Alt" + "R". To stop recording we must also press this key combination. Live broadcast: with the "Windows" + "Alt" + "B" keys, we can broadcast our games live on the Mixer platform. To do this, you only need to have a free Xbox account, which can be the same as the Windows account.

In order to remember our exploits we will only have to go to the folder where the recordings are stored and we will be able to see or edit them if we wish.
