For many security measures we take to protect our personal data, whether on mobile or PC, the best protection in the world is invisibility, because if hackers cannot find our computers in the first place, they will not try to attack them or steal our information.

For this reason, in this post we are going to explain a simple way to hide your Windows 10 computer in Wi-Fi networks, both public and private.

How to hide a PC in WiFi networks through Windows 10

When connecting to an unknown wireless network for the first time, Windows will ask you if you want to mark that network as a home network or a private work network, but depending on the option chosen, this could allow other computers or devices to the same network detect our equipment, with the consequent risk that they try to access the PC to steal the data or launch attacks.

The most recommended in this case is to activate this option on both home and private networks at work, and deactivate it on public networks to protect our data and hide the PC from strangers.

To hide the PC in any public WiFi network, the first thing to do is open the Windows 10 configuration page either by pressing the Start button or the Win + I key combination. Subsequently, go to the Network and Internet> WiFi> Manage known networks option . In this section you will see a complete list of all the WiFi networks you have connected to date, and you must find the WiFi network you are currently connected to.

After selecting the network to which you have just connected, you must click on the Properties button and then on the option " Make this equipment recognizable ". Through this option, there is a switch that you can deactivate to hide the PC in the WiFi network, or keep it activated so that the equipment is recognizable.

If you are going to connect by cable to a network, you will have to follow the same steps although in the Configuration> Network and Internet option you will have to choose Ethernet instead of WiFi.
