The so-called DNS, are a system that allows us to save ourselves the trouble of going around writing down or remembering the IP addresses of the servers and which are quite important for the day-to-day user. For this reason we have developed a small tutorial on how to change DNS in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

What is the role of DNS? It is quite simple, the whole network is based on IP numbers, for example 204.79.197.200 instead of bing.com and thus with any type of address. Basically DNS listings, what it does is resolve each IP address to a name.

For this reason our operating system will use the DNS provided by the internet network that we have acquired by default, although sometimes many users decide to modify them in order to optimize speed, or to be able to access more websites, obtain some other type of extra functionality. or simply avoid a blockade as we taught you a few days ago (Public and Free DNS Servers).

Now we will explain how to change DNS in Windows 8 / 8.1.

How do I change DNS in Windows 8?

The first thing to do is open the Windows startup, look in the Windows search for " control panel ", either version 8 or 8.1. If you prefer, you can combine the Windows + S keys or using the search icon on the start screen.

Then we will go to " Network and Sharing Center ", once the results are shown we click on " Change adapter settings ".

We can see below a list of connections of our network connections. We must replace the DNS of the one we are using. It might be Local Area Network, Ethernet or Wifi. To easily know which is our network, we can see that the adapters that are in color are the ones that are active.

Another and possibly more orthodox option is to deactivate (with the right button we deactivate) each one of them, if our connection stops working that will be our network, to activate it again we must repeat the previous step.

Once found the network that we use, we double click on it or if we cannot press the right button, going to properties. After these steps, we will click on Internet Protocol version four (IPv4 / TCP), located at the end of the list of elements.

Once there, we will use the following DNS server addresses.

Then we will write the DNS that we are going to use, separating it by points that will be added automatically. We will also be able to consult a complete list with the DNS that are available. In our case we have used those of OpenDNS (208.67.222.222) and the one used by our default router (192.20.30.1).

Click on accept in all the tabs that we have opened and then save the changes.

Then the modified DNS will remain with the ones we have configured.

For those who want to check that the DNS are perfectly configured, they can start the system console: Typing CMD in the Windows search engine. And type "ipconfig / all".

It should give us a result similar to this:
