How to change dns servers in macos (step by step)

What's that about DNS?

Modify DNS servers on Mac

To modify the DNS servers on an Apple computer with OS X or macOS (the procedure is the same), you simply have to follow these steps:

1. Click on the apple icon  which you will see on the far left of the menu bar. Select the "System Preferences" option. Optionally you can also access this section of your Mac from the Launchpad or from the Dock, if you have the preferences anchored there.

   

   In the System Preferences panel, select the "Network" option.

   

   Now, in the left panel, select the network interface on which you want to make the DNS modifications. It can be a Wi-Fi network like the one you see selected in the following image, or an Ethernet connection, etc. Then, click on the "Advanced" option that you will see at the bottom right.

   

   A new window will now open. At the top you will find several tabs, select the one that says DNS and then, do one of the following options as desired:
   • Click on the button identified with a “+” sign if you want to add a new DNS server. Double click on the DNS IP address if you want to modify an existing DNS server. And if you want to delete a DNS server, simply select an IP address from the DNS server and click on the button identified with a “-“ symbol.
   In order for the changes to be saved and applied, do not forget to press the "Accept" button that you see in the lower right part of the window.

   

More advanced users also have another way to modify DNS servers on a Mac, this is through the "Terminal" and commands and subcommands, however, it is a more technical formula than doing it through the "panel" System Preferences ”, in addition to the need to know such commands. So we better stick with the slower option, but also much simpler for ordinary users.
