Today we present our full review on this Chuwi Hi9 Plus tablet. The market for electronic tablets is not one of the most consumed at present, with the presence of 2-in-1 laptops and mobiles with large screens. But options as extremely interesting as today, deserve a lot to know better, with a 10-core Cortex processor, 64 GB of storage, an impressive 10.8-inch screen with 2560x1600p resolution and Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity, it could be a very good travel companion.
Let's start your analysis! Here we go!
We appreciate Chuwi's trust in us by transferring the product to us for analysis.
Chuwi Hi9 Plus technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
Chuwi Hi9 Plus is presented to us in a box that has several wrappers for the different elements that make up the product. They are neutral cardboard boxes of little thickness and of very tight dimensions to occupy the least possible space. In them only the name of their brand is distinguished: Chuwi
In each of them, the elements of its interior are perfectly protected with polyethylene foam panels and inside antistatic bags. In total we will have the following elements:
- Chuwi Hi9 Plus electronic tablet Plastic leatherette case with keyboard included AA-battery electronic pen Charger 50cm USB Type-C cable
We must bear in mind that the tablet already comes with the screen protector installed, and the keyboard is of English distribution.
This Chuwi Hi9 Plus is presented to us as a tablet that can be placed in a mid-range market, although with quite good benefits and superior quality finishes to what we are used to in this range. The external appearance is really good with a chassis built in very good-touch and really slim black aluminum. The screen frames themselves are remarkable, with a black finish and approximately 10 mm thick on all edges, so it is not a tablet that has a screen that is too close to the edge.
The measurements that appear in the data sheet of this Chuwi Hi9 Plus are 266.4 mm wide, 177 mm high and 8.1 mm thick. Measures on the one hand enough width to be a 10.8-inch screen, but with a really thin thickness, making it very portable with a weight of only 500 grams. The positive of these large frames is that we can take the Tablet with the screen on without touching it at any time, although of course, the aesthetic aspect will be somewhat less noticeable.
This Tablet is ideal for use in the multimedia field, for work trips where we need a device with great connectivity and above all portability and ease of use, as it has been shown in the days that we have had it with us.
In the front area we will not find anything, only the camera for selfie and video calls with an 8 Megapixel sensor, providing us with acceptable image quality in well-lit spaces. When we are in the dark, it does suffer something else.
As for connectivity, we also have quite clean and very nice sides with that beveled in a shiny aluminum finish. In them we can find the volume and off / on buttons next to the microphone in the upper area and USB-Type-C port and 3.5mm Jack on its left side area. This Chuwi Hi9 Plus also supports installation of dual SIM card and Micro SD memory card up to 128GB.
In the back we also find a very clean equipment, built in aluminum and with the presence of another 8 MP sensor practically identical in capabilities to the front camera. The sound output consists of two stereo speakers that sound quite good, with a loud, clear sound and no vibrations inside, something that is sometimes noticeable in many equipment of this type.
High level display that is out of range
Another thing that we can highlight about this Chuwi Hi9 Plus Tablet is undoubtedly the quality of its screen, both in color representation and in panel. And it is that we are facing a 10.8-inch IPS image panel and capable of giving us a resolution of no less than 2560 × 1600 pixels, which makes a pixel density of 279 dpi, almost nothing. Of course it is a capacitive, multi-touch 10-point display. The viewing angles we must say that they are also very good and at least in this unit, we do not have the presence of bleeding.
As for its use, the screen does not present too strong reflections when we are outdoors, mainly due to the presence of the protector that is included. The brightness is quite high and will allow us to put it to good use both indoors and outdoors. In addition, with the included pencil we can write on it, although with a bit of LAG, everything is said, and use it in basic photography or video editing.
The only weakness of this panel is the battery life, more pixel density means more work for the hardware and, therefore, more battery consumption. So we should always avoid setting high levels of brightness because it will consume a lot of energy.
Keyboard and pen
We should also stop a little to see the peripherals included in this Chuwi Hi9 Plus and the experience we have had with them.
To start we have a nice stylus also built in aluminum and that works with an AAA battery that is also included. This pen is equipped with a sensitivity of 1024 layers and that we can use it immediately with the Tablet, without the need to configure absolutely anything.
We have tested some applications for artistic design, graphic retouching and for writing and we must say that the pressure function works perfectly with those 1024 layers. The precision is magnificent and the grip very good, but in all the tests we have noticed the same, it is the presence of enough LAG or delay when we write and this is represented on the screen. This is a very important handicap for its use, because we will not be able to write at high speed or draw with enough ease as we would like. Mainly because the signal from the pen, along with the hardware effort with a screen of such resolution, are a significant delay element and the experience worsens
Now we will talk about the keyboard, which is integrated into a very good quality leatherette case and with a size perfectly adjusted to the measurements of the tablet. With it, we can place the equipment in vertical box mode to work better on a desk or on our legs.
To connect it with the Chuwi Hi9 Plus, we just have to place the metal edge on the bottom edge of the tablet so that they are perfectly coupled in a magnetized union. We will also have another magnetized area so that when placing the tablet in box mode, it does not slide and thus remains in this position.
The physical and logical keyboard configuration is in English, although we can easily modify it by installing the language in the operating system. It is not an excessively serious problem either when we get used to using it without looking or knowing where the keys are located.
The experience of use is quite good, it is a very finite keyboard with a minimum key travel, although with a good size and separation of them. To get out of trouble is fine and it will be really useful to edit articles and typical actions in an operating system. Also, the response is very fast and without LAG.
Hardware and performance
The benefits of this Chuwi Hi9 Plus are of a good level, especially for the price we have in our hands with this equipment, located in a range of 200 euros, more or less. So you have installed a 64-bit MediaTek MT6797X Helio X27 processor with a total of 10 cores, being two Cortex-A72 cores at 2.6 GHz, four Cortex-A53 cores working at 2 GHz and finally four Cortex-A53 cores at 1, 6 GHz.
As for the graphics system, we have an 875 MHz quad-core G PU Mali T880 MP4 that will be able to move many of the Android games relatively well with little demands, Pokemon Go included. In the RAM memory section we have 4 GB with a storage capacity of 64 GB from the factory, expandable by 128 GB with a Micro SD memory card.
The battery that Chuwi Hi9 Plus mounts is a 7000 mAh Li-ion battery that according to the manufacturer has a duration of 10 hours in video playback. In our personal experience we have counted a total of approximately 6 and a half hours playing videos with a brightness level of 50%. Yes we must say that the battery charging process is high slow with its 5V to 2A adapter.
If we talk about a Tablet we will also have to talk about connectivity, and in this case it is very good. We have installed a 4G LTE Cat.6 modem with dual SIM capacity and that will provide us with a download speed of 300 Mbps, this is ideal to use as a Smartphone on occasions when we need it. But that's not all, because we also have 433 Mbps Wi-Fi AC and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.
In this case we will not have connectivity through NFC or wireless charging function.
User experience and operating system
Testing one of these devices requires some time, in order to have an objective opinion of its features and user experience well built.
For our part, we must say that Chuwi Hi9 Plus has given us good feelings. It is true that we do not have the latest version of Android installed, in this case it is 8.0, it also comes in English, so we will have to install the corresponding language pack from the configuration. Solved these setbacks, we have a very clean system and without extra applications supplied by the brand, nor a custom GUI with its own themes.
We have been testing this Tablet in our day to day to edit the occasional article, play Pokemon Go and above all to see multimedia content on it. We must say that its screen stands out a lot in this last aspect, the movies look impressive and the hardware is able to move them fluently. The sound system is also quite good, although obviously with very little bass.
The performance with Word and with the keyboard is also good and the browsing experience quite fast with the Google Chrome browser available as standard. As we say, the battery consumption can be improved, especially with high brightness, the autonomy falls quite low. We also had high hopes for the stylus, but LAG is there, and the fluency experience leaves something to be desired.
The distance of the Wi-Fi connectivity is more or less the standard of a mobile and also the capacity of the 4G, so in this sense very correct and smooth operation. Nor have we had to restart the Tablet by blocking applications or forcibly closing them, so for most standard users we see it as an incredible option, to spend time with it playing and watching videos, and of course to work in a way eventual.
Final words and conclusion about Chuwi Hi9 Plus
We reached the end and now it is time to summarize the qualities and weak points of this Chuwi Hi9 Plus. The first thing we must put into perspective is that it is a tablet that clearly stands in a very competitive mid-range, with quality flashes in some areas. One of its positive points is the design, a very thin product with quality finishes like those of aluminum.
As for the hardware, its processor has given us a good performance for its general use, we must not deceive ourselves with those ten cores, because it is not a high-end processor and as such, we cannot demand first-class performance from a team that it is not designed as such. But without a doubt for an average user who wants something portable, to work when they need it and with good connectivity it is a more than recommended option.
We recommend our guide to the best tables on the market
One of its most positive qualities and that it is true that it is out of the mid-range, is its good screen, with an IPS panel of 2.5 K resolution it will give us image quality to reproduce high-level content. While it is true that the GPU is one step behind and in terms of gameplay, we are not going to be able to demand too much of it.
The Android version used in Chuwi Hi9 Plus is 8.0, which, although it is not the most current, we have a very little touched and clean system with great performance, without blocked applications, or sporadic restarts, so this is a point in favor for her. Another positive aspect is the functionality of the keyboard, well built and with excellent response and handling, at least in what we have noticed. Instead, we must say that the usefulness of the stylus has left us with bittersweet impressions, not because of the stylus itself, but because of the delay we experience between what we write and when it is reflected on the screen. For a user who wants speed this does not work for us.
Finally say that this Chuwi Hi9 Plus we will have it available for a price of about 200 euros approximately, according to the distributor (Amazon, Chuwi and Aliexpress), which is a fairly affordable price for what we have in hand. For us it is a recommended product for users who ask for something versatile, good performance and normal use.
