Until the arrival of Windows 8 we had no possibility to use ISO images in Windows unless we will use an external internet application. But after this version of Windows, Microsoft natively implemented the possibility of opening this type of files from the folder explorer itself. Today we are going to see how to mount an ISO image in Windows 10 and how to burn it to a compact disc CD or DVD.

Index of contents

The typical programs that we have always used to mount images have been Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools, Ultra ISO or Virtual CLoneDrive. We have an article citing whether Daemon Tools is worth it in Windows 10, so if you want, you can take a look at it and see what options they have in addition to what Windows offers.

Mount ISO image in Windows 10

To be able to mount ISO image in Windows 10 we will only have to select the image and open the options using the right mouse button. Above all, the option to “Mount” will appear

In this way the image will be mounted and a new window will appear that shows us the internal content of this image.

If we go to the "This computer" directory where the hard drives appear, we will see that a new DVD drive has appeared that represents the mounted ISO image. As if it were a DVD.

We can mount all the ones we want simultaneously, this far exceeds what the programs we download allow us to do for free. For example, Daemon Tools only allows us to mount 4 images simultaneously.

If when we open the options for the ISO image, the “Mount” option does not appear, it is because the file extension is associated with some third-party program that we have installed to perform these same image mounting functions. In this case what we will have to do is choose the option of "Open with…" and select "Windows Explorer"

Unmount an ISO image

To disassemble it again and release this virtual drive, what we will have to do is go to it in "This team" and pressing the right button, we will choose "Eject"

Burn an ISO image in Windows 10

Just as we have the possibility of mounting images with the native Windows tool, we can also record it in the same way. We are not even going to need to install a software to burn CDs or DVDs with the images that we have stored in our system.

What we must do in this case is, select the ISO image and reopen its options with a right mouse click. And we choose the option "Burn disk image"

After choosing these options, a window will open in which we can select our CD, DVD or Blu-Ray recorder and carry out the recording process.

We also have a tutorial in which we learn in a very detailed way how to burn all kinds of images to CDs, DVDs with Windows and burn DVDs of movies with free applications. Visit him:

We hope that this tutorial has been useful for you to get the most out of the native Windows 10 image mounting tool. Did you use other software to mount them? Are you going to continue with it or are you going to switch to Windows? Write us your opinions.
