Htpc itx 【2020】 configuration (intel and amd ryzen apu)?

We continue to expand our ranges of computer configurations that we have in Professional Review. This time we added to our extensive catalog a configuration to the ideal as HTPC multimedia equipment with a low price (Low Cost) of 350 euros and other higher-end equipment. What will we surprise you with?

This is one of the configurations that we like to prepare the most. The main idea is to use this equipment as a multimedia center, HTPC or even as an auxiliary equipment that is compatible with any Linux or Windows operating system and to install Kodi or any other multimedia center.

The box we have chosen is the Cooler Master Elite 110, a small but very spacious box, with a steel structure, it offers us space for all the components that we want to house, in addition to being able to put an ATX size power supply, with inputs air to have our Mini PC well cooled and house more than one hard drive.

As for the motherboard we have chosen the ASRock H270M-ITX / ac, a very complete board, has mainly been chosen for having a Wifi AND Bluetooth connection, which offers us a multimedia center connected without the need for cables, and can be connected wirelessly anywhere.

In addition to wireless connections, we have multiple USB connections to avoid falling short and a reinforced PCIe Express port if we want to connect dedicated graphics cards and turn it into a Gaming device.

As always, we like to offer a balance and updateable budgets in the future.

As for the processor we have chosen the Intel Pentium G4560, which offers us 2 cores 4 processing threads that will be more than adequate for the use we want to give it (in addition to as we have said before, to function in video game environments if we add a card proper graphics without creating bottleneck).

As for the RAM we have a Crucial Ballistix Sport LT memory of 4GB at 2400Mhz sufficient for our case and a Corsair VS450 power supply although it is true that it may seem too much for a processor that is going to offer a very low consumption, but as we have Said before, we always have the option to expand and improve without having to change other base components twice.

We have included in this configuration a very small Silverstone Milo box with only 7 liters of volume, but of quality and perfectly compatible with the chosen components.

If you want to add a graphic later, Silverstone recommends that it be a low-profile version.

We bet on an AMD Ryzen 5 3400G APU with 4 cores and 8 threads, a processor that will not only spare for multimedia, but also to work and even for light games at adjusted resolutions, thanks to its integrated Vega 11 graphics.

We have the Ryzen 3 3200G as a more affordable alternative, with 4 cores 4 threads, and integrated Vega 8. Interesting if the HTPC is used more for multimedia.

For the motherboard, the MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC is one of the most balanced options we've found on the market. It is a high quality product, with excellent connectivity (including Wifi and Bluetooth), high resolution video, etc. To this we add no less than 16GB of RAM, a very comfortable amount for any use that we are going to give it. It could also be enough with 8GB, especially if we are going to use it as secondary equipment for basic tasks, but in all cases it is essential to use the 2 memory slots to work on Dual Channel, as this greatly influences the performance of the integrated graphics. Keep that in mind.

For storage we forgot about noisy, bulky and slow HDDs to include a single 1TB SSD, the Crucial MX500 of more than decent quality, with which the team will fly. To finish, the power supply is a Silverstone ST30SF V2.0 (important not to choose 1.0). It is a model of great quality considering its affordable price, which should be around 50 euros. As a much superior alternative, quieter and with a 7-year warranty, we have the Corsair SF450.

Final words and conclusion

We recommend mounting on this type of Kodi equipment regardless of the chosen operating system. There are many addons that will give us a lot of versatility (watch TV online, movie synopsis, streaming movies, listen to music, etc….).
