PC configuration Graphic and video design: what to consider

Currently there are MAC PRO solutions that work well in Full HD resolutions, but it has hardware from 2013 and at this point they fall short enough to render 4K video (we hope that some competent option comes out in 2019) . Therefore, we recommend you purchase desktop PCs with Windows 10 operating system, which cost the same or half and have up to three times more power.

Rendering video requires many resources both for the processor and the graphics card, especially the latter. Therefore, we must try to fulfill three premises: pure and hard power, that the PC is as cool as possible and try to be quiet so that it does not bother us while we work with it.

We must bear in mind that the graphics card plays a leading role when rendering video, thanks to OpenCL technologies and Nvidia's CUDA CORES. These dramatically reduce times!

They are much faster and have a greater power capacity than our processor. The graphics cards that we recommend for these purposes are:

• Nvidia RTX 2080 SUPER or RTX 2080Ti. The new Nvidia graphics that in terms of rendering offer practically the same performance as the 1080Ti, which does not compensate for their high price. Nvidia RTX 2070 SUPER or RX 5700XT. It is used by many youtubers and professionals in the sector. They are very purchased to play in 4K, although they are a great alternative to the Nvidia Quadro or Radeon PRO that have a much higher cost than these. Nvidia RTX 2060 SUPER or RTX 2060 (also the latter to play). Something cheaper and much used. The dry RTX 2060 is a great option right now. Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti / GTX 1660 SUPER / GTX 1660. This would be the one that we consider as the minimum requirement for these tasks, any of the options serves us, it is we recommend the cheapest because we would have more than enough for our tasks. AMD Raden RX 5700. When optimizing drivers they will be a highly recommended option. In our tests with Adobe Premiere PRO but nothing worrying that in the coming months it will be resolved. The price is exceptional, a great purchase for gaming and design.

Another important point when making our design PC is the structuring of a good disk system. We will combine SSD and mechanical drives to solve all our needs.

Although in case you need a lot of space, our advice is to buy a NAS system where you keep all your physical backups and possible synchronization with the cloud (only important data). We recommend you use a total of 3 discs or more, although with two we can do the fix perfectly:

• SSD disk for operating system and most important applications. Recommended 480 or 500 GB. SSD disk for previews and caching by Adobe. Mechanical hard disk for important data and projects.

This would be a super TOP-RANGE equipment and ideal for editing 4K videos and even playing any game in 4K, we offer you both options, both from AMD and Intel to choose to your liking. The chosen i9 achieves higher frequencies and better single-core performance than any Threadripper. But we have decided to go for an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X CPU that features higher frequency and more cores than the i9-10900x. What an AMD pass!

In both options, these are backed by a very extensive 64GB RAM memory in 4 16GB modules, which will be able to work on Quad Channel on the Intel platform and on Dual channel on the AMD platform. In no case will you fall short and you have even more scope for updating. In the case of wanting ECC memory, only the AMD option would be valid.

It is important to mention that we include different cooling depending on the processor. For the Intel option, the excellent Be Quiet! Silent Loop 360mm.

In the case of the AMD option, we chose a good heatsink such as the Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black which is the best heatsink we can throw ourselves in the face. We don't need more to keep it cool

To support any work that needs to be accelerated by the graphics card, we include an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2080 SUPER with excellent performance and features, also in editing and design.

End our budget with a 4TB Seagate Barracuda PRO HDD (includes data recovery service in case it breaks); a 512GB Samsung 970 PRO NVMe SSD, which is perfect for working with heavy files by using top quality MLC memories that will not lose performance in this type of heavy loads; and another Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD, in this case SATA and TLC.

We have a team with 16 cores and 32 threads in the case of AMD while in the Intel option we are left with 8 cores and 16 threads. With a similar budget this time, but of course, AMD is an ideal choice for performance - price.

The two configurations with ASUS brand motherboards that offer high quality and capable of supporting similar monsters.

As storage we have a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 512GB SSD (NVMe) for the operating system along with a 2TB HDD to save final work. On the graphics card, we went down to an NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER that will continue to offer good performance without problems.

Finally, liquid cooling from Be quiet! for Intel's budget and a Noctua heatsink for AMD's budget, and we keep the Corsair RM1000i to power these two monsters.

We arrived at the cheapest configuration with a Ryzen 3700x processor (8 cores and 16 threads) in the case of AMD and an i7 9700k (8 cores and 8 threads) in the case of Intel, returning to the same as before, due to the shortage of Intel processors and their high price, increases the price of the budget making it not so worth the purchase, in addition to needing cooling, which on the contrary with the Ryzen 3700x and its serial heatsink can work perfectly if we do not carry out Overclocking.

If we want better temperatures and silence we have the Be quiet! Dark rock PRO 4 that will fulfill its function in an outstanding way.

The boards chosen Asus in the case of AMD and Gigabyte in the one of Intel will perfectly fulfill to squeeze to the maximum the chosen processors, together with the RTX 2060 SUPER graphics of the cheapest assembler will be the perfect set for our rendering tasks. If you find a cheaper one it will also serve us, for example a GTX 1660 SUPER.

We keep the box, but we lower the RAM memories to 16GB, but we do keep the same storage configuration.

Finally, we have a Corsair RM650X power supply to power this equipment, which will be more than enough for our configuration. It is an excellent model with a 10 year warranty.

In the event that you are only going to edit photography or sound, you do not need a dedicated graphics card and you can pull the one that comes with the processor. Intel processors perform very well in this type of task, but whenever you can economically choose a dedicated graphics card.
