Different, it would be a good word to define this new Corsair Crystal 680X RGB. A chassis that nothing more than touching it gives off quality and good taste in all its corners, full of tempered glass and with a large width format ideal for moders and professional assemblies.

For today this will be our games room, with 4 fans included, 3 of them RGB and plenty of free space to mount everything we want. Let's start with this chassis!

First of all, we thank Corsair for the assignment of their product to carry out our analysis.

Corsair Crystal 680X RGB technical characteristics

Unboxing and design

And without a doubt what has this new Corsair chassis the most is good design, but inside the box, on the outside we only have a large neutral cardboard box with black screen printing that makes up a sketch of the chassis on a huge brand logo. We can also appreciate the full name of this chassis.

In the back we do have more interesting information about this Corsair Crystal 680X RGB, although all of it consists in giving a visual to the modular representation of what we are dealing with.

And it is that this box, in addition to being beautiful, is clearly aimed at people who like to enjoy assembling their own custom computers, with wide possibilities and multiple bays for hard drives, lots of details, and full of news regarding the typical towers, as we will see in our analysis.

Now it is time to open this huge box where we find a chassis very well supported by blocks of expanded polystyrene and in turn tucked inside a black textile bag. Inside the cardboard box and the chassis itself we find the following accessories:

  • Corsair Crystal 680X RGB chassis Installation user manual Magnetic dust filter for the upper area Four bags with screws Large number of clips to route and order cables

And finally we have it, this Corsair Crystal 680X RGB is a fairly large and also quite heavy chassis, registering measures of 423 mm deep, 344 mm wide and 505 mm high. These are measures of scale without a doubt and with a format that at first glance reminds us a lot of the Corsair Crystal 280X RGB, in fact, it is just the same as bigger. So it is not so different then, at least not for Corsair, but it is true that we do not usually see this configuration in more manufacturers.

With the image of a large rag lizard reflected in its glass, we begin to see the external description of this chassis. We remove the strong plastic protectors to better see its 4mm thick tempered glass, which occupies the entire side.

In addition, it is supported by two hinges at the rear to provide us with a tilt-and-turn opening to the rear. A technique that many high-end chassis are already adopting and that looks great on them. Of course we can easily remove this glass to work inside the tower.

To prevent it from opening, we will only have the presence of a system with two magnets that keep it glued to the side, so be careful to lay it out for that side, because we could have a fatal surprise.

Its front is one of the most beautiful we have seen in a long time, and it could be even more, since this Corsair Crystal 680X RGB is presented on the market with black and white colors.

The front is made up of two parts, the first is a tempered glass panel well supported by a matte finish PVC plastic shell with an ornament on the side that provides air intake to this front. The second is a PVC plastic plate with large bezels to finish off the edges and give that impressive look.

In our love for scrapping, we have decided to completely remove this front to explain how it is done. The part of the glass we will only have to pull it with force but with delicacy, until we can uncouple the plastics from their gaps, you can help them by pressing these pins from the inside out.

The PVC part will have to be removed by unscrewing a few screws that are distributed from inside the chassis. It is not too complicated, but we must always be careful with the materials.

Then we can also remove the dust filter and the three 120mm fans with customizable RGB lighting that are installed.

We turn to see the upper part, which consists of a tempered glass bolted to a PVC casing with a large separation to let in or out the air inside. We can easily remove it by removing the screws, and thus we can install the magnetic dust filter that comes as an accessory in the box.

On the right side we have the panel of ports and buttons, I / O for friends. In it we will have two USB 3.1 Gen1 (or 3.0) ports, an interesting USB 3.1 Gen2 Type-C port and a 3.5 mm Jack input to connect our headset with a microphone on it. Regarding the buttons, we have the one to turn on the equipment and another to RESET.

Panel generally quite bare, although with high-speed connectivity. We will have to be pending if our board supports USB 3.1 Gen2 as internal connectivity.

On the right side the only thing we find is a sheet steel with a huge ventilation grille protected by a medium grain dust filter. To remove it we will have two hand screws on the back.

In the back area we can well appreciate the internal distribution of this chassis. In the right area we find what in almost all, a gap of up to 8 expansion slots for E-ATX motherboards and two other sides for a vertical configuration of a graphics card. We also have a pre-installed 120mm fan, but no lighting and holes for motherboard panel and vents.

In the left area we have what has been the hole for the power supply, in this case vertically. And we also have a great vent for the hard drive rack area.

We have a bottom part in which there is also a removable medium grain dust filter for the lower area, since we can also install fans in it. We really liked the fixing system for this filter, with a very manageable and completely removable plastic frame.

Corsair Crystal 680X RGB is supported by four thick rubber feet that are high off the ground. Its round design with chrome edges looks great on you.

Interior and assembly

We leave behind this long review on the outside to see the inside, which will really provide us with the means to configure our PC.

This will be the main compartment of the chassis, a chassis that is made of robust steel and with a very well-kept interior finish as you can see. We have lots of holes for cables, but all of them protected by black rubbers that make them very discreet.

In this case we have a lot of space because the PSU is not installed here, a very important detail to avoid transmitting heat from it to the motherboard and main hardware. That is why this Corsair Crystal 680X RGB supports ITX, Micro-ATX, ATX and E-ATX boards.

In addition to the large opening to be able to work with the CPU without uninstalling the board, we will have enough space for heatsinks up to 180 mm high and graphics cards up to 330 mm. This is enough space for almost any type of hardware, since the largest ones are usually between 300 and 320 mm long.

We come to the refrigeration section, which is always a mandatory step in a chassis analysis. The good thing in this case, is that we already have factory installed three pieces of LL120 fans with 120mm RGB lighting on the front and another 120mm SP120 without back lighting.

Fan configuration:

  • Front: 3x 120mm / 2x 140mm Rear: 1x 120mm / 1x 140mm Top: 2x 120mm / 2x 140mm Bottom: 2x 120mm / 2x 140mm

Liquid Cooling Configuration:

  • Front: 280/360 mm Rear: 120 mm Top: 240/280 mm Bottom: 240/280 mm

In this way we have everything necessary to mount refrigeration of different sizes in the different spaces, as well as a total of up to 8 fans of 120 mm or 7 of 140 mm which is not bad at all.

In the upper and lower area we will have plenty of space to mount AIO kits all in one without problems.

In the other area of the chassis we will have everything that concerns the installation of a power supply, with lengths of up to 225 mm and all wiring management. The space is very large and that is greatly appreciated. We have a support in the lower area to support the power supply well.

Smart technology is also present with two pre-installed control elements. These will be used to control the RGB lighting of the fans from Corsair's iCUE software. Thanks to this we can synchronize the ventilation system with other compatible iCUE devices, such as mice, memories, keyboards, etc.

The only downside that we see to the system, is that it does not have electricity outlets for the fan motor, so we will have to connect them, either to the board or to the source power with a Molex or SATA connector, the which is not included. In the case of a new model, you could bring the Corsair Obsidian 500D RGB system, for example.

Finally, let's look at the topic of data storage, and it's one of the great qualities of this box. Corsair Crystal 680X RGB has two rack mounts to store our hard drives in the rear compartment. One of them is to install up to 4 2.5-inch hard drives or SSDs, and the other is to install up to 3 mechanical 3.5 ”hard drives. Perfectly ordered and located in a very good place to manage wiring. Outstanding here for Corsair.

In these images we see our finished assembly, which has been fast and with plenty of room to work. We see that there is still a lot of space for cables in the side area.

Impressive result that this Corsair creation gives us, to personal taste it is one of the most beautiful chassis that I have had the pleasure of riding.

Final words and conclusion about Corsair Crystal 680X RGB

There is no doubt that one of the strengths of this Corsair Crystal 680X RGB is the design it has. The manufacturer moves away from everything usual and uses an exclusive design that has given the Crystal range with double interior so much success in which working is a delight. With triple tempered glass, hinged window, and quality and matte PVC that give a TOP finish.

The interior is not for less, we have a clean and free PSU compartment for the motherboard, with full compatibility in the size range and all holes protected with rubber. We also must certain the presence of the USB Type-C in the front and two 3.0, instead of the typical 2.0.

We recommend our guide to the best PC cases on the market

The size leaves room to also install all-in-one liquid cooling in all locations, including the indoor area. We also have four included 120mm fans, three of them RGB compatible with iCUE thanks to the microcontroller. That we do miss a cable to connect the fans through SATA power, if we do not have it we can only connect these fans to the motherboard.

Another very positive aspect of this box is that we have racks to orderly install our hard drives and this is in our opinion very useful to consider it a professional chassis. We also think that the dust filters could be improved , since they are not fine-grated, so that the particles can pass inside without impediment.

To finish, this chassis can be obtained for a price of 249 euros starting today at the brand's distributors. It is certainly not a very affordable price in the case of a chassis, but this model is clearly at the top of the market.
