In the market we can find hundreds of mechanical keyboards, all of them with a very similar design, so it is not easy to find one that really stands out from the rest. This is not the case of the Corsair K63 Wireless, a model that surprises with its wireless connectivity so that it will be much more comfortable to use, while maintaining the benefits of a wired one thanks to its latency-free system. This is accompanied by the Gaming Lapboard, which will be the ideal complement when using it from the comfort of the sofa.
Do not miss our review of what promises to be one of the best PC keyboards of this year 2018. Here we go!
First of all, we thank Corsair for the trust placed in transferring the product to us for analysis.
Corsair K63 Wireless + gaming Lapboard technical features
Unboxing and design Corsair K63 Wireless
Corsair has opted for its usual presentation for the Corsair K63 Wireless and the Gaming Lapboard, since both come in cardboard boxes with the best quality printing and based on the colors black and yellow. The front of both boxes shows us images of the products as well as their most important characteristics.
The specifications are detailed in the back much more extensively.
Both products are well-packed and protected within their boxes, several pieces of cardboard make sure they don't move, and plastic bags protect their surface from scratches.
Next to the keyboard we find the documentation, a USB to micro-USB cable for charging and connection , a micro-USB to USB adapter, a USB receiver for wireless connection and the removable plastic wrist rest with a rubberized surface for better grip.
Finally we see the Corsair K63 Wireless in all its splendor, we are facing a keyboard with TKL format so it is very compact, its dimensions are 366 x 173 x 41 mm. This makes the keyboard even more comfortable to carry and occupies much less space on the table, all without losing any functionality so it is great.
In its upper part we can find the multimedia keys characteristic of the brand, something that is not lacking in any of its keyboards and that is great for us.
There are volume up and down keys , pause / resume playback, forward and backward and controls for lighting intensity and gaming mode that disables the Windows key.
If there is something that the Corsair K63 Wireless stands out for, it is for its wireless operation as its name suggests, for this it uses a proprietary USB receiver that provides a high-speed connection, encrypted AES 128 bits and without latency.
This makes the performance the same as that of a wired keyboard. It can also be used with Bluetoth 4.2, although in this case we may have latency. For its operation it mounts an integrated battery, it has an autonomy of between 15 and 75 hours depending on the lighting.
And is that Corsair K63 Wireless has an ELD lighting system in blue, it can be adjusted in two intensity levels, as well as turning it off so that the battery lasts as long as possible.
Let's go to see what is hidden under the keys, these are the Cherry MX Red switches designed specifically for gaming due to their smoothness. These mechanisms offer 4 mm of travel with a trigger point of 2 mm and a force of 45g, all with a durability of 50 million keystrokes, so we have a keyboard for many years.
These keys have N-Key Rollover, which means that we can press them all at once without the system crashing. What a treat of wireless mechanical keyboard!
As we can see, it follows the design of the floating keys of the brand, this makes the switches to be placed directly on the body of the keyboard without any type of unevenness or slit, which gives a more attractive appearance and helps to clean the keyboard in a way more comfortable and faster.
On the back we see a micro-USB connector for connection to the PC and an on / off button. In the corners we find some holes for the Gaming Lapboard as we will see later.
At the bottom we find the usual lifting legs and rubber feet so that it does not slip on the table and we have the best fixation.
Playing in the chair is possible with the new Corsair Gaming Lapboard
We now go to see the Gaming Lapboard, this is accompanied by a set of spare hooks in case we are a little big and we break that the ones that come standard.
This Gaming Lapboard reaches dimensions of 670 x 277 x 52 mm and weighs 1.85 kg, this makes it much heavier than the keyboard itself, something that can certainly be quite strange but that is due to the high quality of its materials. The base is rubber so that we can support it on the legs in a very comfortable way.
This Gaming Lapboard has a hole in the left area to connect the Corsair K63 Wireless keyboard, in this way we can transport the entire set in a much more comfortable way.
It also offers us an integrated wrist rest and a textile mat on the right side, the latter can be removed to clean it and will help us to slide the mouse very smoothly, as if it were a desk mat.To place the Corsair K63 Wireless it is enough to fit it in the hole and raise the two rear hooks that are attached to the keyboard holes that we have talked about before.
Now we leave you some images of what the set of keyboard, lapboard and wireless mouse that Corsair sent us looks like.
That last! We have loved it and it is great to be on our sofa playing on a very large TV! ?
software
As always, we recommend installing the CUE (Corsair Utility Engine) software that allows us to customize and configure our keyboard to our liking. We have three key sections:
- Actions: Create macros to get the most out of our wireless TKL keyboard. Lighting effects: Although it only has the blue LEDs, we have a lot of effects: viewfinder, rain, pulse, wave, key lighting, lighting effect or static color. Performance: It offers us several options with the Win Lock key. Not bad, but we are missing a performance map of the keys we use the most.
Final words and conclusion about Corsair K63 Wireless + gaming Lapboard
We are super happy with the Corsair K63 Wireless keyboard! Also with the complementary Lapboard to use it from the sofa at home. The keyboard is a true Corsair revolution: wireless, Cherry MX Red switches, blue lighting system , excellent keycaps and multimedia controls in a TKL format. A real treat!
Corsair promises 15 hours of autonomy by playing and working with lights on. We have been using the keyboard all week and have had to charge it only once. Playing an average of 1 hour and a half or 2 hours a day approximately games like shooter.
Our experience has been great! We have not noticed any kind of latency while playing and it has made us think that we were connected to a wired keyboard. Few reproaches with this proprietary Corsair technology.
We recommend reading the best mechanical keyboards on the market
Regarding the Lapboard we have seen it useful for use on the sofa. It is comfortable and stable… it fully fulfills its mission. We miss that it has a more dimmed border or some accessory so that the mouse slides out of the lapboard. Of course, to leave it on the table it seems too bulky, although you finally get used to it.
The price of the keyboard will fluctuate around 130 euros in online stores (not yet available in Spain) and the lapboard over 90 euros. The set is perhaps price, but if you only want the keyboard it seems like a good starting price. Since there is no competition whatsoever and it is a revolutionary product for the sector (although we have seen some Chinese model that left much to be desired). What do you think of the Corsair K63 Wireless ?
