If you have not yet decided which mouse to give yourself for these holidays and you want quality and performance, Corsair M65 ELITE gives them to you, without further ado. Fresh from the oven of one of the best companies for high-quality gaming products, this mouse has one of the most advanced optical sensors to date, the PMW3391. With a spectacular design with RGB lighting in two areas and perfectly adaptable to any grip, we will surely enjoy it in the hours of play for which it is designed. Let's see in detail everything about this Corsair gaming mouse.
And how to give our thanks to Corsair for giving us this product exclusively for analysis.
Corsair M65 ELITE technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
Corsair M65 ELITE is very well kept in a flexible cardboard box with the brand's corporate colors, mostly made of yellow and black. This mouse must be worn, and that is why we see on its main face a full-color photo of the equipment in operation, revealing its customizable double RGB lighting and its spectacular design.
In this area it makes it clear that the DPI profiles are customizable with the brand's software, the well-known iCUE.
In the rear area, we will also have very useful information for the user, since in case you did not know, this mouse has three metal weights at the bottom that we can remove to lighten the total passage of the mouse to 97 grams. That is, with them in place we are talking about a higher weight.
Another very important info that we can see directly on the box is that the Corsair M65 ELITE chassis is made of anodized aluminum, no bad plastic, quality material and that it will not wear out. Mainly for this reason it is a somewhat heavy mouse even with the weights removed, but the appearance is spectacular.
We open the box to find the mouse placed on a perfectly insulated plastic mold and fixed together with all the documentation, which consists of the instruction book, the Corsair guarantee and a precautionary and warning leaflet. The guarantee, as in all peripherals of this type, is two years.
With a view of his wide and aggressive figure, we begin to see the design and characteristics of this Corsair M65 ELITE. It is a mouse specially designed to give maximum performance in games, although of course, we can use it for whatever we want.
It has the most advanced optical sensor mounted to date, the PMW3391 built in collaboration with Pixart, the market leader in optical sensors.
This sensor comes equipped with a lens capable of natively reaching resolutions of 18, 000 DPI, adjustable in resolution steps as low as 1 dpi. It supports accelerations of 50G and 10.16 meters per second, there is nothing. Of course, we will never use the 18000 DPI because there is still no adequate screen resolution to use a mouse to the fullest.
Of course we can configure this resolution from the iCUE software to adapt it to our liking at any time.
Let's go to see in more detail the buttons on the top of the Corsair M65 ELITE. Here we have the two main buttons fully exposed in their front and side areas, which gives the team a very aggressive look, although be careful with the blows in this area.
In the central area we have the invaluable presence of a large wheel made of translucent paste to enjoy its lighting, and covered by a ribbed black rubber to prevent slipping.
In the back area, we have two buttons to increase or decrease the DPI steps that we have configured, in addition to a light that will visually indicate what DPI profile we have. It will also be configurable, of course. By default we have five pre-configured quick profiles available: 800, 1500, 3000, 6000 and 9000 DPI. It has the ability to store a single configuration profile in the internal memory of the mouse, which will allow us to install the mouse on another PC without having to have iCUE to use it as we like.
The 8 buttons that this Corsair M65 ELITE mounts are ultra-durable Omron type, capable of withstanding over 50 million clicks. The touch is of medium hardness, to avoid accidental clicks, and the coupling with the fingers and hand is very good.
Looking at both the front and the back, we see that it is a short and quite wide mouse, with an aluminum chassis that supports mounting in three main parts, on the one hand, the upper area containing the keypad, and two independent side parts, all of them in matt black plastic.
We can see that it is slightly tilted towards the outside, something typical of gaming mice to optimize the right click. It is not an ambidextrous mouse, so the natural hand of use will be the right one.
The lateral areas, as we have indicated, are independent from the upper one, and are made of plastic without rubber protection for fastening. In the left area we have two good size and quite prominent navigation buttons and a red "sniper" button, that is, if we press and hold this button, we will obtain a lower DPI resolution for accurate shots regardless of the DPI resolution that let's get active. Really useful for FPS games with precision rifles and telescopic sight, or also graphic design work.
We went to see the floor of this Corsair M65 ELITE, in which we have 5 Teflon surfers of considerable size and very well distributed throughout the area. The rounded design of them. It will allow us to move with a very low friction on any surface, both mat and table.
But what stands out the most in this area are the three metal weights screwed into the chassis. By removing some of them, or all three at once, we can modify the center of gravity of the mouse and obtain a minimum weight of 97 grams, not bad for mounting a metal chassis. The set of weights can be around 45 or 50 grams, ideal for players who like heavy mice.
As we will have noticed, this mouse only has wired connectivity through a braided cable with a USB 2.0 interface of 1.8 meters in length. It is the best interface to not obtain any type of LAG in the use of video games.
We leave you some photos with the mouse working on the mat to enjoy its design, buttons and lighting section. The latter will be two-zone, rear logo and wheel, fully customizable through iCUE.
Grip and sensitivity tests on movement
The first thing to keep in mind that the measures of Corsair M65 ELITE are 119 x 64 x 41 mm, a mouse not very long, short and relatively wide, what does this mean ?, because it is designed so that we can feel comfortable in the different grips and also with different size hands.
Of course these tests based on my own opinions about the product may vary according to the tastes of each person. With a 190 x 100mm hand like mine, the grip I find most comfortable for this mouse is the Claw grip. The drop in the back area is quite steep and for a palm grip it is a bit forced for a big hand. Possibly for other smaller measures it will be the ideal, without losing of course the other possibility. For the type of fast-moving grip such as the fingertip, it is also a very manageable equipment, especially removing all weights.
As for comfort, the truth is that its design, in addition to being beautiful, is well studied to provide us with a very ergonomic and comfortable grip. We reach all the buttons perfectly, even the sides and the sniper button. At no time do we miss fluted rubbers in the lateral areas.
Corsair M65 ELITE is a mouse that goes well in all kinds of games, both exploration and open world, hack and slash and of course frantic cooperative FPS. Surfers do a great job with very fast movements and precise movements. We have tested it with both Precision Assist enabled and Disabled, and for experienced players it will be best to disable all of these aids. The sensor is phenomenal and has impressive precision and smoothness.
In the tests we have carried out, we have also found no reason to take offenses. The method used to check the variance to movement is the one we have been doing in our last review, to draw a line in Paint in a physically preset area and at different speeds. The results at different speeds are impeccable, except for our own execution errors, so we determined that the acceleration is 0, as we have already seen with the Corsair IRONCLAW RGB that mounts this same sensor.
In pixel skipping tests both with and without software assistance, we have not noticed that any pixel is skipped from the screen, the performance is also impeccable and precise, not for nothing is it a 1 dpi sensor.
During testing while playing, we've made quick, drop-pass movements and touchdown with the mat, and tracking and jittering are impeccable, too. There are no rare movements or plane changes with the avatar at any time. The sniper button the truth is that it is quite noticeable and is very useful for precision games.
Movement in rough areas such as our own hand or on the lit screen of a mobile phone has been quite good, which denotes the benefits of this new optical sensor.
Firmware and configuration
As in other lower-end models, in this Corsair M65 ELITE we cannot miss the indispensable presence of the brand's software, iCUE, a complete software that can bring out the best in our mouse.
In the "profiles" section we have a simple interface to create a profile from scratch that will fill with information with the successive configurations of the following sections. We should note that this is where we will take care of storing one of the profiles that we want in our mouse. When the memory card icon is marked with a number, it means it is loaded on the mouse. We can only store one profile at a time on the mouse.
We now turn to the "actions" section where, like other models, we can create our own macros to lighten and customize repetitive tasks or that we need. All buttons can be customized in terms of functionality from this section.
The next in the list will be for lighting, we will have two customizable RGB zones in which we can load a lot of lighting animations.
Of course we can modify the DPI profiles to our liking, both in sensor speed, DPI resolution in sniper mode and of course the color of the light that indicates what resolution we are at.
We will also have a section for activating and deactivating assistance in angles and in the position of the pointer. For this mouse it is not worth a moment to have these options selected, except for graphic design. The precision without the supports is impeccable and the movement too.
We can also calibrate the optical sensor to optimize it with the contact surface we have.
In tests with assist off / angle adjustments / full on, we see that the results do not vary too much, as we mentioned before, the sensor is very good.
To end this part, we have gone to the "configuration" section to see that we will be able to customize the mouse's polling frequency, the brightness of the lighting and other generic aspects.
Corsair M65 ELITE final words and conclusion
This Corsair M65 ELITE is the best in terms of gaming mice that we have from the brand. An aggressive, original design together with its aluminum chassis and dual-zone RGB LED lighting, makes it a really attractive and quality mouse.
The performance is great and worthy of the more expensive mice out there, a sensor not only good at resolution but also when used over any game, with and without a mouse pad. The sniper button is appreciated and we find it very useful too.
The performance of the buttons is also impeccable, although we think that, having the two main ones so exposed, it is possible that they will take the odd blow that could disrupt them. We must exercise extreme caution with this mouse in this regard.
We also recommend our guide to the best mice on the market
As for the grip experience, we believe that your ideal grip is in Claw grip and Palm grip, but we also have good access with Fingertip grip or tip. This makes it perfect for all kinds of games, and thanks to its three weights, we can place the weight that best suits us.
Nothing to say about the software, because we have already seen that it is very complete and allows us to customize all aspects of the mouse. We missed that the memory of this one allowed us to store at least one or two more profiles, but it is something extra.
We can buy this equipment for about 70 euros, a price that seems very competitive for a product like this with quality and good performance. For our part we find it highly recommended for demanding and experienced players.
