These are good times for gamers. Corsair brings us a gift after Christmas that will delight any fan of MOBA games that boasts. The Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite is an oversized mouse ready to make you earn your place among the best through and through. Shall we take a look at it?
The privateer brand has always maintained a prominent position in the world of gaming and peripherals. Whether they are mice, keyboards or headphones we can always find some of their products at the forefront of the market.
Unboxing of the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite
You know what it is: we love packaging. The Scimitar RGB Elite comes in a cardboard box with the usual combination of yellow and black for its color palette. On the cover we receive an image of the mouse itself accompanied by the Corsair logo, iCUE, model and indication of its main purpose of use: MOBA and MMO.
This information is repeated on the sides while on the reverse it is much more developed, offering us some descriptions of its highlights:
- 17 fully programmable buttons 12 button repositionable Key Slider 18, 000 DPI optical sensor Omron switches with 50 million click lifespan Durable scroll wheel Flexible braided cable

Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite design
The Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite is a robust, lightweight mouse (approximately 147g). It is a revised version of the Corsair Scimitar RGB. Its differences from the previous model are based on a higher number of DPI, updated sensor and adaptable side button panel position.
This mouse has a black design with plastic finishes of different textures that vary between matte and glossy. It has a total of four zones with RGB lighting and the characteristic Corsair logo and logo. This is a 100% right-handed model with Omron switches rated 50 million clicks.
In its upper area we can see that the right and left mouse clicks are united in a single piece that constitutes the entire front of the mouse as well as part of the right side. Also located here are the two switches originally assigned to control the DPI and memory profiles accompanying the scroll wheel. An interesting fact is that this wheel totally depends on the design of the Corsair Scimitar RGB through its connection axis and is not embedded in the design. This scroll is textured with a non-slip rubber strip surrounded by two RGB lighting rings.
The hump of the Scimitar RGB Elite is slightly behind the front area, describing a smooth curve that is much more accentuated in the rear contour. On its right side we have a textured piece with a particle pattern that offers remarkable roughness with an optimized grip. Like the main pieces, this section is also made of plastic with a matte finish and a slightly rubbery feel.
Switches and buttons
On the left side we have for its part the panel of twelve buttons that alternate a smooth and textured presentation on them to help us locate each other. Although they have been treated with a metallic aspect, we are faced with plastic switches that are not cold to the touch.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, this button panel can slide within its surface range. This results in a plus of comfort, especially for users of small hands who sometimes feel that the fingers do not comfortably reach the furthest buttons.
This utility comes to us thanks to the hexagonal Allen key included in the box. On the back of the Scimitar RGB Elite we find a slot where we can loosen the internal tab that allows us to slide and reposition the entire piece of buttons to the height that is most practical for us.
Since we are talking about the reverse, a total of four surfers are appreciable at the base. An interesting detail is that all of them have a slot to facilitate removal, which makes us think about the possibility of replacing them as their wear becomes more pronounced. This is so keeping in mind that we should find new ones of similar dimensions. In the central area, a brushed aluminum foil is visible, in the center of which the Corsair personalized PixArt PMW3391 optical sensor finds a window.
The wire
The Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite cable is presented twisted in black fiber and reaches a length of 180 mm. Its connection is USB type A and it is reinforced with a robust piece of rubber.
This model is non-removable cable and is fixed to the mouse with a grip piece on its left front. We found the connection point to be robust and, together with the braided cable, it has a durable solidity against jerks and sudden gestures.
Putting the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite into use
The moment of truth arrives and we have to throw a few games to see how this privateer is spending them. The Scimitar RGB Elite is a large, wide and somewhat heavy mouse. The number of buttons it offers and its robustness are clearly designed for games with more strategy-related features and the number of commands per minute than the fast and precise movements of a first-person shooter game.
The scroll wheel has a nice feel and offers very little resistance at each turning point. Unfortunately this aspect is not adjustable in the same way as the right side button panel and some users may find it inconsistent in this aspect. Its vertical pulsation is minimal as far as travel and has a certain hardness. The click it offers is loud, albeit slightly lower pitched than the left and right mouse clicks. These Omron switches have an estimated longevity of 50 million clicks, exceeding 20 million in their predecessor model.
The click that enables the right and left mouse clicks is slightly advanced, being optimal in the upper half or half of the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite (above the DPI and profile buttons). Nor do we mean that it is impossible to press them from further back, although the necessary pressure force increases in comparison.
Ergonomics
This mouse model tends to favor a palmar grip. This is mainly given by its dimensions: 115 mm long and 80 mm wide at its maximum point. However, as mentioned above, the ability to move the side panel of buttons with its regulator and the delay of the hump are factors that combined make favorable the grip of claw so common in the most tense players.
The buttons on the side panel do not have a straight distribution, but structurally the frame offers a natural curvature towards the rear of the Corsair Scimitar Elite, which our thumb would greatly appreciate. However, you should watch the pressure you exercise on this side since these buttons are relatively "easy trigger". I personally am one of those who hold the mouse as if to crush it, so in the process of adapting to its use I have had to learn to watch this aspect. At the user level, perhaps I would recommend disabling those that do not have programmed functions that you are going to use in your games to save you trouble.
On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with having many buttons. Games like League of Legends , Starcraft or Dota 2 (MOBAs) and others like World of Warcraft , Black Desert or Elder Scrolls Online (MMORPG) will receive the Scimitar RGB Elite with open hands. In addition, if we add virguerías to the 17 programmable buttons as custom macros, the thing is out of hand and we reach maximum performance.
Sensitivity, acceleration and DPI test
Moving on to comment on more technical aspects, the original Scimitar came standard with a PixArt SDNS-3988 sensor with a capacity of 12, 000 DPI, which with its Over Powered version, the PixArt PMW3391, goes up to 18, 000 DPI. Many users may question the usefulness of such a number of dots per inch, but here the trend is upward regardless of consumer preferences. Obviously the percentage is adjustable in a proportion that varies from 1 DPI to the maximum, so that it is almost impossible not to make the mouse adapt like a glove to our preferences.
Putting this data to the test, here are the results of our basic acceleration and movement test with Windows Paint.
- Acceleration: The PixArt PMW3391 is a sensor that has 500 IPS and an acceleration of 50G. Its acceleration test is performed with a percentage of 800 DPI without activating the pointer position improvement. The stroke behavior is broadly stable, allowing us excellent fluidity in fast movements.
- Pixel Skipping: This is a high-end model that increases its speed point by point in a stepwise manner. Pixel skipping is therefore non-existent in both slow and fast movements. The tests have been carried out on a 1080p 60Hz monitor, although iCUE allows us an advanced calibration through software. Tracking: the tracking of moving objects in game or general office automation activities is exemplary. No incidence has been appreciable in this regard and the millimeter precision of the sensor is therefore demonstrated. Although the Scimitar RGB Elite is an ideal mouse for MOBA and MMORPG, its maximum capacity of DPI, IPS and acceleration has nothing to envy for mice raised for FPS games and we will probably see the PixArt PMW3391 in other future Corsair models. Surface performance: We've tested the Scimitar RGB Elite on both a Razer rigid plastic mat and a Steelseries cloth mat. In both cases it has worked correctly, although the slippage has been more fluid on the rigid mat. This is a characteristic that is given by the material itself and the weight of the mouse. In a cloth mat it is necessary to exert a somewhat greater force, although we also gain precision. Also regarding the performance on surfaces it is convenient to review the surface calibration settings offered by the Corsair iCUE software itself.
- Powerful CORSAIR iCUE software: enables RGB lighting control, sophisticated macro programming and button remapping, sensitivity customization, surface calibration, and more. Integrated Profile Storage - Take your lighting profiles and macros wherever you go. Surface Calibration Utility - Maximizes precision and responsiveness based on mouse pad or surface.
RGB lighting
The Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite features a total of five lighting zones:
- Two rings on the scroll wheel Corsair imager Button panel on the left side Right fringe of the active DPI profile
The illumination of the Corsair logo and scroll rings is synchronized while that of the side button panel depends on the DPI profile setting and the left fringe of the active local memory. The color combination that these profiles show can be changed to the user's taste through software, as can the speed and pattern of RGB lighting.
software
You know how Corsair spends them. The iCUE is one of the most complete peripheral software that we can find in the gaming world and the Scimitar RGB Elite is not an exception to its benefits.
Once we download the application and connect it, you will see that an update is probably necessary (if you do not have the latest version of iCUE, you will need it). Doing so will receive your main panel showing the Scimitar RGB Elite.
Once we access its configuration, what interests us is the main profile located on the left, since it is here that we can establish everything we need for the Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite:
- Profiles: creating, editing and deleting profiles for both buttons and lighting. Actions: Here we can assign functions to specific buttons. These can vary between recording macros, text, multimedia, starting application, timer, disable and change files. Lighting effects: its own name indicates it, we will expand on its corresponding section. DPI: Sets and regulates the profiles of dots per inch, enabling or disabling them accordingly. It also allows us to choose the indicative LED lighting. Performance: angle adjustment and options to improve pointer position and acceleration speed. Surface calibration: it helps us establish the relationship between our percentage of DPI and acceleration and the friction rate that our mouse generates with respect to the mat or surface on which it slides.
Final words and conclusions about Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite
The Corsair Scimitar RGB Elite is a high performance mouse with an excellent sensor. It is a specialized model for a specific game and audience, so all its features and design are aimed at maximizing the performance of both professional and passionate users. Being the improved version of the Scimitar RGB and the Scimitar Pro RGB the polishing of its functions is unbeatable but the price also rises significantly. Taking environment prices as precedent at € 82.98, the Scimitar RGB Elite is probably above € 100 but not exceeding € 180. We await his departure for this year 2020 with a date yet to be determined.
We recommend reading: Best mice on the market.
The handling of the mouse together with the customization options of its 17 buttons offered by the Corsair iCUE software make the Scimitar RGB Elite a fearsome weapon in the right hands. In it we find all the requirements of a competition mouse, highlighting the PixArt PMW3391 custom sensor pointer with its maximum 18, 000 DPI, 50g acceleration and 500 IPS. If online strategy and role-playing games are not your thing, you can expect to see this wonder in any of the future mice of the brand more aimed at FPS games.
The Scimitar RGB Elite certainly favors palmar grip, but the hump on the back and the option to regulate the position of the left side button panel also makes it suitable for players with claw hold or a fusion of both modes. We conclude with an unbeatable impression of a mouse not suitable for all budgets but that puts all the meat on the grill at the service of high competition players. With high-quality materials, finishes, switches and braided cable, what the brand offers here is a Scimitar RGB Elite ready to prove its worth on the pitch armed with the latest features and a robust, stable and high-quality design.
