Corsair Obsidian 500D technical characteristics
Unboxing and analysis
The Corsair Obsidian 500D comes to us in a large cardboard box in the natural color of this material. On the different faces of this box we find the name of the model, an image and the most important detailed specifications.
Once we open the box we find the chassis covered by a plastic bag and very well accommodated by various corks to prevent it from deteriorating during transport, in this way, the manufacturer ensures that it reaches the user in the best conditions possible. Next to the chassis we find a cardboard box with all the accessories necessary for assembly.
Corsair Obsidian 500D is a new generation chassis that has been designed to adapt to the demands of today's users. In its construction we find a lot of tempered glass on the two sides to give it a spectacular and distinctive aesthetic.
Its front has a very flat design and completely finished in aluminum, the negative point is that we lose the possibility of mounting a 5.25-inch unit, although more and more manufacturers are completely eliminating these types of bays.
That is why if you intend to mount an optical drive this is not your chassis.
In the upper area of the front we find the panel with the input ports and connectors, this time we find a USB 3.1 Type-C port along with two USB 3.1 ports, 3.5 mm connectors for audio and micro. Next to it the power button. With this we have that the Corsair Obsidian 500D offers wide connectivity options, including both the most modern and the most traditional.
The opposite side will allow us to manage the wiring in a fairly advanced way to achieve a very clean assembly that does not harm the air flow, something that is always appreciated and could not be missing in a product from a manufacturer of the stature of Corsair.
Corsair has thought about cleaning and has installed magnetic dust filters on the top and for the power supply, these will keep the interior of the equipment much cleaner. These filters are easily removed to allow cleaning and to continue doing their work always as the first day.
In the back we find space for a 120 mm fan that will take care of drawing hot air, a 120 mm Corsair SP fan with the ability to rotate at a speed of 1200 RPM is included as standard. We found seven expansion slots and enough honeycomb punched metal to improve airflow. Finally the power supply is installed at the bottom, the best position to do so.
Detail of the floor filters and the four rubber feet that cushion all the weight of the equipment on the surface that we leave our computer.
Interior and assembly
To access the interior of the Corsair Obsidian 500D, we just need to remove the main panel to “pull out”, it can be done simply with your hands since there is no screw, easier than possible.
But before stopping to see all its benefits on the most attractive face. Let's go take a quick look at the other glass window. How does it remind us of the Corsair 570X RGB ?
As we can see it allows us to manage all the cabling, we have enough space to install 3 2.5-inch SSDs and two 3.5-inch hard drives. And more than considerable space to mount a high-end power supply, regardless its longitude.
The interior of the Corsair Obsidian 500D has a horizontally split design, this makes the power supply remain inside and completely faired to isolate the rest of the components from its heat, a very good decision.
We can mount a fountain with a length of up to 225 mm.
While at the top we see the installation area of the motherboard, this chassis is compatible with ATX, Micro ATX and Mini ITX models , so it offers many possibilities. As for the CPU heatsink supports models up to 170 mm, there will be no problems with the graphics card either since we can mount units up to 37 cm. This means that we will not have problems when assembling a very high-end system.
As for cooling, we can mount a maximum of three 120 mm or two 140 mm fans in the front, to these are added a maximum of two 120 mm or 140 mm fans in the upper area and the rear 120 mm. For lovers of liquid cooling it also offers very good possibilities, since we can mount a 240, 280, or 360mm radiator on the front to which a 240 / 280mm radiator is attached in the upper area. Although in the case of the roof, we must acquire a cooling with a narrow radiator, since we do not have much room to move either.
Corsair has included space for mounting a pump and a coolant reservoir, thereby improving the possibilities for using a high performance custom liquid cooling circuit.
Finally we leave you some images of a montage of a high-end equipment: X370 motherboard, Ryzen 7 1800X, AMD RX VEGA 56, 512 GB SSD and 600W PSU.
Final words and conclusion about Corsair Obsidian 500D
The C orsair Obsidian 500D presents all the good things about the Obsidian series like the new features of the 570X platform . The incorporation of aluminum, steel and dark tempered glass in both windows (both with hinges) has given it a super elegant touch.
We really liked the possibility of installing a total of two 280mm radiators, a vertical graphics card, having a hole to mount a pump or liquid cooling tank, a quality cover for the power supply and second generation USB 3.1 connection.
Our assembly was quick and easy. In just 20 minutes we had our PC mounted and the feelings have been great. We really liked your cable router and what our final setup looks like. We believe it is one of the best PC cases to be presented this year.
We like Corsair to forget about RGB lighting. Since we consider that the Obsidian series is indicated for users who want to have a beautiful box but without having a fair inside. In the case that you are passionate about "the colored lights" you can always install RGB strips or fans with effects. Very good work Corsair!
The recommended price for the public must be 154.90 euros. We believe that it is an option to be highly valued and that it ranks among the best in this range. Competing on the Corsair 460X RGB and the Corsair 570X RGB themselves. What do you think of this chassis? Have you fallen in love like us? ?
