Corsair, a leading manufacturer of memories, SSDs, top-of-the-range cases and gamer peripherals, sent us a few weeks ago the new model of Corsair Strafe RGB mechanical keyboard with a new lighting system and Cherry MX Brown switches , although we can find it available with MX Blue, MX Red and MX Silent switches.

Do you want to know more about him? In our review in Spanish we tell you all the details of this great keyboard.

We thank Corsair Spain for trusting the product for its analysis.

Technical characteristics Corsair Strafe RGB

Corsair Strafe RGB

The packaging of the Corsair Strafe RGB is similar to that of its brothers Corsair K70 and Corsair Strafe LED, where it combines the corporate colors black and yellow. We see the labels that incorporates a multicolour system and uses Cherry MX Brown switches. While on the back we have all the information about its technical characteristics in various languages.

Once we open the box we find:

  • Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard Instruction manual Wrist rest Quick guide Key extraction kit and key replacement for FPS and MOBAs

The Corsair Strafe RGB has measurements of 448 x 170 x 40 mm and a weight of 1.35 kg, as you can see it has normal measurements as it is a standard keyboard . As we mentioned in the analysis of its normal version, Corsair has maintained the excellent design that its previous works, such as the Corsair K70 RGB.

The keyboard is constructed of a premium ABS plastic surface. The touch is also excellent, while maintaining the minimalist touch that characterizes it and if it is in its "layout" version in Spanish.

The keyboard is distributed in 104 keys consisting of the alpha-numeric zone, full numeric keyboard and function keys in the upper zone. Not having specific macro keys, the Corsair application allows us to use any of them as macro keys. We think this is a great advantage, since we can customize the keyboard to our liking.

When we are in the upper right area we find the brightness key, which is adjustable by 25, 50, 75 and 100% brightness, and the lock or unlock button on the Windows key.

We can see that on the sides there is no frame that protects the switches, facilitating the cleaning of the keys and the base of the keyboard itself. Although it is not as beautiful as the K70 (aluminum frame) the feeling could not be better.

Going into more detail, we currently find four versions of Cherry switches: MX Red, MX Brown, MX Blue and MX Silent that meets the needs of professional users and gamers. Specifically, we have the version with Cherry MX Brown switches, which is ideal for users who write a lot and at the same time use their equipment to play. After our experience, the response is smooth and linear with a wide area of action.

It also comes equipped with N-Key Rollover (NKRO) and Anti-Ghosting technology that substantially enhance the experience. Its sample rate will satisfy any user. In the rear area we have 4 rubber feet that offer two positions, and four other rubber bands that prevent the keyboard from slipping, along with a product identification label.

One of the novelties with respect to the normal version is the incorporation of the demanded wrist rest. Quite a success, because with its rubbery surface it makes writing and long hours of games very pleasant.

The Corsair Strafe RGB includes the possibility of changing the conventional keys for two sets. The first is for FPS games, that is, the WASD keys. And the second game is for MOBA games with the QWERDF shortcut keys. Obviously it incorporates a small extractor that facilitates the task.

It incorporates two cables, one that serves as a USB HUB and a second that is in charge of giving the device signal to our PC. It is a shame that it is not twisted, but it is still a fairly thick cable that oozes quality.

In the back there is little to highlight, simply indicate that it incorporates two temples that allow the keyboard to be adjusted in two positions and four straps that allow the keyboard to not slip.

Finally, I would like to leave you some images of the keyboard working and its spectacular design. In person it impresses and a lot…

As we can see we have a great multitude of color, this is due to its RGB system of 16.8 million colors. In the next section we will explain the settings and the possibilities it offers us. But without a doubt, it is a work of art.

software

In order to configure the entire keyboard it is necessary to install the configuration software that we can download from the Corsair official website. Specifically we will lower CUE (Corsair Motor Utility). When we install it, they will surely send us a message of a possible firmware update, we will proceed to update and restart the equipment.

The application is divided into 4 sections, as we have already seen in the normal version of the Corsair Strafae LED. As we already mentioned, it is one of the most advanced and complete that we have seen first hand:

  • Profiles: allows us to assign macros keys, change the keyboard lighting and activate / deactivate keys or functions in the performance section. Actions we can edit any function and create more complex macros again. For example in speed, combinations with the mouse, etc… Lighting: In this section it allows us a more complex and more advanced lighting. Create combinations with wave, curly, solid… That is, combinations that we had never thought of on a keyboard. The last option is "options" that allows us to check and update the firmware, change the language of the software, modify the multimedia keys and be able to contact Corsair European technical support.

Final words and conclusion

The Corsair Strafe RGB is an excellent mechanical keyboard, which offers a multitude of possibilities for the most demanding players to professionals in the sector. It is a keyboard with a spectacular design, much of the fault lies with its RGB lighting system.

We were very happy to see the incorporation of the wrist rest that we demanded in its normal version. It also incorporates spare keys for FPS and MOBA games.

This new variant of the keyboard allows us to choose between several Cherry switches: MX Brown, MX Blue, MX Red and the new MX Silent. Who said that in Spain we did not have good keyboards? Well, Corsair in less than a year, has brought us a multitude of options.

In short, if you are looking for a keyboard with a brutal aesthetic, with highly competent software, of long durability and ideal for hard games. The Corsair Strafe RGB is the perfect candidate and one of the best keyboards in our guide. A 10 for Corsair!
