Crytek has released a new video demonstrating the results of a CRYENGINE research and development project called Neon Noir, which uses Raytracing technology.

Neon Noir is a demo under CRYENGINE that uses Raytracing

Neon Noir is based on an advanced version of CRYENGINE's 'Total Illumination' that shows Raytracing in real time. The demo shown below runs on an AMD Vega 56 graphics card and demonstrates how reflections and refractions with Raytracing can provide very realistic images to games.

This feature is expected to be available to developers using CRYENGINE in 2019. The demo was created in a custom version of CRYENGINE 5.5 and the experimental Raytracing feature will run on AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. Crytek will optimize the technology to benefit both the current generation of graphics cards and supported APIs such as Vulkan and DX12.

The Neon Noir demo follows the journey of a police drone investigating a crime scene. As the drone descends the streets of a futuristic city, illuminated by neon lights, we see its reflection accurately reflected in the windows through which it passes, or scattered by fragments of a broken mirror, while emitting a lighting routine red and blue that will bounce off different surfaces using CRYENGINE's advanced Total Illumination feature.

This is a new demonstration of how Raytracing can deliver a realistic environment with lighting, reflections, and refractions closer to reality.

The interesting thing is how AMD is receiving Rayracing without having specific functions for it, as if Nvidia did with the RTX series. We will keep you informed
