Unboxing and design

Deepcool Captain EX 240 Pro is shipped to the user in a large, sturdy cardboard box. The artwork is based on simple geometric shapes but is colorful, hinting at the concept behind the design of this refrigerator.

Inside the box, we find the refrigerator and its accessories well protected in a custom cardboard frame to prevent damage during transport.

The typical AIO cooler package consists of mounting hardware and an installation guide. In this case, the manufacturer has included everything necessary for mounting on all compatible platforms, as well as a manual on how to install it. The manufacturer also encloses a hub for the fans, which in turn acts as an RGB controller.

Deepcool Captain EX 240 Pro is based on a classic AIO CPU cooler design, with the CPU block assembly connected to the radiator via two hoses. The CPU block assembly includes the CPU contact plate, pump, RGB LED lighting, and speed control electronics. The tube tubes are thick and have a nylon braid surrounding it. It is not very flexible but it is certainly very resistant. The covering of the hoses prevents the evaporation of the refrigerant fluid that circulates inside the heatsink.

The radiator is 275mm long, 120mm wide and 27mm thick. Design is common and that's not a bad thing as it's been shown to provide relatively good performance. With its patented technology, any pressure within the circulation system will be released into the air, so the coolant has no reason to leak.

The highlight of this cooler is the CPU block, which is based on an almost cubic shape, with the company logo engraved on the sides of the set and a circular array of decorative fins on top. This block includes a spectacular highly configurable RGB LED lighting system, which will make the aesthetics inside your PC unsurpassed.

Pump lighting and fans have been upgraded to addressable RGB, you can now enjoy nearly limitless customizable gaming environments. Meanwhile, the pump LEDs are relocated to the outside for more vivid and far-reaching effects. The downside is that it has two cables, one for the pump and one for the RGB LEDs.

The Deepcool Captain EX 240 Pro 's square copper contact base is attached to the main body of the cooler via large, visible Allen bolts. It comes with the previously applied thermal compound and is polished for a very smooth finish. We also remind you that it is compatible with all current sockets from both Intel and AMD, including the huge TR4.

Installation on the LGA 2066 platform

We are going to mount on a high-end platform, the LGA 2066. It is as simple as selecting the necessary accessories: four screws for the motherboard, the two plates and four nuts to fix it.

We screw the screws to the base plate, fix the two plates as seen in the photos (check with the block beforehand that the screws fit well). we adjust the 4 nuts and apply thermal paste on the processor. Everything very easy and simple!

To start the fans and RGB lighting, it's as simple as connecting the two controllers. It is a very simple task, but we have to give it a little patience when organizing the wiring inside our PC. The good thing is that the part is magnetized to hold anywhere on our chassis.

To test the actual performance of the heatsink we are going to stress with the powerful Intel Core i9-7900k at stock speed. As usual, our tests consist of 72 uninterrupted hours of work in stock values, since being a ten-core processor and with high frequencies, temperatures can be high.

In this way, we can observe the highest temperature peaks and the average that the heatsink reaches. We must bear in mind that when playing or using other types of software, the temperature will drop dramatically between 7 to 12ºC.

How are we going to measure the processor temperature? For this test we will use the internal sensors of the processor under the supervision of the HWiNFO64 application in its latest version.
