Unboxing and design

First, we look at the presentation of the DeepCool Captain 240 EX, this heatsink is offered inside a cardboard box, which is decorated with the brand's corporate colors, that is, black and red. The box shows us several high resolution images of the product, as well as all its most important characteristics and specifications, we will analyze them all throughout this analysis.

We open the box and we find the DeepCool Captain 240 EX along with all the accessories necessary for its assembly. All the elements are perfectly arranged to prevent them from moving during transport, thus reaching the hands of the end user in perfect condition.

The manufacturer includes a backplate and frontplates for the Intel and AMD platforms, in addition to all the necessary hardware and a hub for fans. It is very important to follow the attached manual, because we can get involved during the installation and configuration of the system.

Deepcool provides us with two 120mm fans, which will be in charge of generating the necessary air flow for the heatsink to function. These fans have dimensions of 120 x 120 x 25 mm and the ability to rotate at a speed between 500 and 1800 RPM, allowing them to generate a maximum air flow of 153.04 CFM, a static pressure of 3.31 mm / H2O and a loudness maximum of 31.3 dBA. These fans are based on an impeller of the best quality, which guarantees excellent performance together with their high-quality bearings, which prevent friction, and thus vibrations to improve durability.

We now look at the radiator, which reaches dimensions of 274 x 120 x 27 mm and is made of aluminum. The manufacturer has opted for a design with very fine fins, which allows reaching a huge surface of heat exchange with the air generated by the fans, something essential to maximize its cooling capacity. DeepCool Captain 240 EX includes a plug, which allows to replace the refrigerant fluid if the user deems it appropriate.

The other element to highlight of this DeepCool Captain 240 EX, is the block for the processor, which includes the pump and is based on a fairly innovative design compared to what we are used to seeing in the rest of the alternatives on the market.

This block has RGB color LED lighting, something very interesting in order to offer great aesthetics. The pump has dimensions of 92.5 x 93 x 85 mm and rotates at a speed of 2200 RPM, which allows it to move the coolant through all the elements of the heatsink without problems.

This processor block is manufactured from the best quality, highly polished copper base, which is very important to ensure the best possible contact with the processor's IHS, and for maximum heat transfer. This base includes pre-applied thermal paste, something that makes its installation as easy as possible.

DeepCool Captain 240 EX is compatible with all current platforms from both AMD and Intel, with the exception of socket TR4 due to its large size. The manufacturer includes all the necessary elements for its assembly.

LGA 2066 socket mount

To test the good performance of the DeepCool Captain 240 EX we will use an X299 motherboard from the Intel LGA 2066 socket, for this we have to previously install the processor and then screw the 4 screws to the motherboard (In the 4 corners of the socket). We recommend you review the first image.

The next step is to fit the metal adapters and secure them with four screws. It is a fairly simple task that allows us to place the heatsink in two different positions. This is very useful when choosing the position of our radiator on the chassis, whether on the front or on the roof of the box.

Remember that the block has pre-applied thermal paste and we must not remove it. We place the block in the processor and finish by fixing the liquid cooling kit with the two screws we have on both sides. Now all we have to do is connect the cables and the lighting / fan controller included in the kit.

To test the actual performance of the heatsink we are going to stress with the powerful Intel Core i9-7900X at stock speed. As usual, our tests consist of 72 uninterrupted hours of work in stock values, since being a ten-core processor and with high frequencies, temperatures can be high.

In this way, we can observe the highest temperature peaks and the average that the heatsink reaches. We must bear in mind that when playing or using other types of software, the temperature will drop dramatically between 7 to 12ºC.

How are we going to measure the processor temperature? For this test we will use the internal sensors of the processor under the supervision of the HWiNFO64 application in its latest version. Final words and conclusion about DeepCool Captain 240 EX White

The DeepCool Captain 240 EX is a fairly controversial liquid cooling kit compared to its rivals . It has a complete design in white and a block that prints the first time you see it, largely due to the transparent rigid tube that comes out of it.

Although many users think that the only novelty of this version compared to the normal one is the color white, they really don't know that this model is 100% compatible with AMD Ryzen processors from socket AM4. Regarding performance, we have been able to verify that it is at the level of the best! We were very surprised by the build and motor quality of the fans. Hood by DeepCool!

Another point in its favor is that the pump is barely heard (it will be inaudible when we have our PC assembled in a chassis) and its RGB design dazzles. Although as a point to improve, we believe that instead of using a physical controller for the lighting effects of the block, it would be interesting if it were compatible with some software already owned by the brand or by another company.

We really liked to see that its price is very fair. Currently it ranges from 118 euros, although we have seen it on sale at some point for about 90 euros on Amazon.
