The iphone 6s and iphone 7 remain the most used by apple
Table of contents:
- The iPhone 7 ranks as the most used iPhone
- IPhones presented two years or more ago account for more than 60% of market share
With only a few hours left for Apple to unveil its new 2018 line of iPhone devices, perhaps iPhone XS, a new study by Mixpanel shows that the iPhone 7 is the most common device in use, followed directly for the iPhone 6s, and ten percentage points ahead of more current devices such as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
The iPhone 7 ranks as the most used iPhone
According to this recent study, the iPhone 7 is the most used bitten apple terminal on the market today, accounting for 17.34 percent of all iPhone devices currently active and in use. It is followed by volume of use the iPhone 6s, whose share drops to 13.01 percent. Third, the iPhone 7 Plus, with a share of 12.06 percent.
At that point, perhaps the most interesting thing about the study is that the iPhone X ranks fourth on the list with a 12.06 percent usage share. From 9to5Mac they qualify this fact as “remarkable”, justifying it under the argument that the terminal has been on sale for less than a year, while the rest of the devices have been on sale for years.
Although this argument is absolutely true, it is no less true that its high price, in my opinion, little justified beyond the desire for exclusivity-elitism, would have directly affected the terminal's sales, which, on the other hand, do not appear to be bad.
But nevertheless, what personally seems most remarkable to me about these results is that both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, both launched in 2018 along with the popular iPhone X, have a market share of 7.89 percent, which makes them fall to the sixth and seventh position (interchangeably) in the classification of iPhone devices with the most current use. I have no doubt that the iPhone 8 series has not caught on among users, at least not as the iPhone 6 series, the iPhone 7 series and even the iPhone X once did. This is because for many, Among those that I find myself, the iPhone 8 is nothing more than a filler device, launched to justify the excessive price of the iPhone X, without the difference between the most expensive and the next being abysmal. The iPhone 8 is, in essence, the iPhone 7, with a few improvements, imperceptible beyond the rear case for the general public, which has led us to opt for models at a better price and with the same guarantee.
This is the full breakdown offered by the Mixpanel study regarding iPhone usage percentages by model:
- iPhone 4 - 0.11% iPhone 4S - 0.34% iPhone 5 - 0.98% iPhone 5c - 0.47% iPhone 5s - 3.87% iPhone 6 - 10.57% iPhone 6 Plus - 2.63% iPhone 6s - 13.01% iPhone 6s Plus - 4.74% iPhone SE - 4.62% iPhone 7 - 17.34% iPhone Plus 7 - 12.06% iPhone 8 - 7.89% iPhone 8 Plus - 7.89% iPhone X - 12%
IPhones presented two years or more ago account for more than 60% of market share
An aspect worth mentioning is the large number of users who, as a whole, still have the iPhone 6, 6s and 7, in total, 60.35 percent of iPhone users. This fact, according to some analysts, could correspond to a "large amount of pent-up demand for this year's new iPhone models." That is, it could be now when these users, with older devices, launch a renovation, perhaps boosting sales of the new iPhone XS and even the iPhone X, once its market price is lowered.
And now we can only wait for the event this afternoon to meet the new iPhone XS, and see how the market evolves.
