New details have been revealed about Intel's upcoming 8-core, 16-thread processor based on the Coffee Lake architecture, as well as the accompanying Z390 chipset platform. The information comes directly from Intel's own website where details about the processors and the platform are published.

More details on the 8-core Intel Core Coffee Lake and the Z390 chipset

Starting with the new 8-core Intel Core Coffee Lake processor, more details have come out about the models, which appears to have a 95W TDP.

It seems that Intel has decided that this new 8-core 16-wire processor has a TDP of 95 W. This TDP would be similar to the variants with 6 cores and it has been almost a "tradition" to use this TDP in its most popular chips. The 95W TDP will play a crucial role in terms of determining the performance efficiency of the new Intel processor, as AMD's best Ryzen 7 2700X processor has a 105W TDP. This is where Intel aims, dethroning the Ryzen 7 2700X offering the same number of cores, but with somewhat lower power consumption.

On the other hand, we know that the new 8-core Coffee Lake chip will come unlocked, which means it can be overclocked. It will be interesting to see if it will be so good in this aspect with respect to the models with 6 cores, which manage to reach up to 5.00 GHz.

As for the Z390 chipset, the new platform seems to be better in every respect. The details are many and basically show that the general compatibility with PCI-e and USB 3.1 Gen 2 has improved, which would allow connecting more peripherals.

We can expect more details about the next Z390 and this new chip at Computex 2018 that will begin in the coming weeks.
