We are just two or three weeks away from the expected media event in which Apple will announce the new 2018 iPhone models and, as the still unknown date approaches, the rumors and predictions are just happening. Once again, it has been popular KGI Securities analyst and Apple affairs expert Ming-Chi Kuo who has released a note to investors with his latest predictions. The analyst maintains his prediction that three new iPhone models will be announced during the week of September 9, but Kuo believes that only models with OLED displays will hit the market during the month of September.
Some users will have to wait a little longer
Kuo predicts that the 6.1-inch iPhone, which is expected to be the cheapest model of the three different smartphones that the company is going to launch this year, will hit the market "a little later" compared to the two models with a screen. OLED which, according to Kuo, will be available in September. The analyst suggests a launch in October, but does not specify a specific time. Recall that last year, Apple announced the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in September, however, the premium model was not launched until early November, so this year's movement would be similar although, in this case, with the lower value model.
Kuo continues to predict that the 6.1 and 6.5-inch iPhones will ship in both SIM and dual-SIM configurations depending on the market and region. Kuo adds that the new 5.8-inch iPhone will have a single SIM tray and integrated SIM support, but that eSIM "may not be activated."
Finally, Kuo predicts that all three new iPhone devices will feature the new A12 chip, including the basic 6.1-inch LCD model. Apple already released all three iPhone with A11 chips last year despite the huge price difference between the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.
Kuo has also been negative on the recent rumor that the new phones will work with the company's stylus. According to the analyst, the new 2018 iPhone will not be compatible with the Apple Pencil. The reason, says the analyst, is very simple: it would not offer a good user experience to date.
