Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has just stated that if Steam commits to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without any major conditions, Epic Games will host a recall of their exclusives and consider the possibility of put your own games on steam.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney wants Steam to lower his commissions

Sweeney claimed that the 30% commissions Steam charges from PC developers is the big deal, and that Epic Games is trying to fix these issues with its own store.

Still, and as Sweeney claimed, Epic Games is willing to abandon the search for new exclusives once - and if - Valve decides to cut its share of the revenue from the games it sells at its store.

It would be very beneficial for developers if Valve really dropped its share of revenue from games sold. However, it would also be interesting to see whether Tim Sweeney would honor this public statement or not.

If Steam committed to a permanent 88% revenue share for all developers and publishers without major strings attached, Epic would hastily organize a retreat from exclusives (while honoring our partner commitments) and consider putting our own games on Steam.

As we know, Valve keeps 30% of game sales revenue on its Steam store. This figure seems to be too high for many studios and publishers, so Epic is taking advantage of the situation to reach exclusivity agreements in its store, where the commission is much lower.

For now, Valve has not commented on Epic's exclusives, much less if they plan to lower sales commissions. In short, one more chapter of this novel, where Steam users do not welcome these 'exclusivities'.
