Facebook ends the trends section because users are less and less interested
Table of contents:
Last Friday, the social network Facebook announced through its newsroom that it will remove its "Trends" section, both in the web version and in any of the versions for mobile devices from this same week that has just started, in an effort for “giving way to future news experiences”. Facebook claims that its users have found the “Trending” section to be “ less and less useful”, leading to the closure of a section that brings together the latest news of the day in various categories.
Facebook reforms its news
On the web, Trends is in the right toolbar, however, in iOS, it is a little more hidden in the More → Explore → News Trends tab. Facebook launched the section in 2014, but it has only been available in five countries and represents "less than 1.5 percent of clicks" for news publishers. Thus, the removal of Trending will also mean the removal of the products and integrations of third-party partners that depend on the Trends API.
To make up for the disappearance of this section, Facebook has explained the three ways in which it will keep users up to date with the latest news.
One of them is a "Last Minute Label", a simple indicator that publishers can put in their publications. A new "Today In" section will also be tested to connect users to important local news. Finally, a section dedicated to Facebook Watch in the USA. USA where people can follow live events, and access exclusive “weekly in-depth dives” from Watch.
