The Fedora 24 Beta version, the new version of one of the most used Linux distros currently sponsored by Red Hat, has been available for a few hours now, dangerously approaching the definitive version of this operating system.

Fedora 24 Beta with GCC 6 and Linux kernel 4.5.2

This new beta version of Fedora 24 arrives with the GNOME 3.20.1 desktop environment, the updated wayland graphics server protocol as optional, while following X11 as the default. Mention is also made of the GCC 6 implementation and the current Linux kernel 4.5.2.

Continuing with the news, we can highlight the update of several libraries, such as glibc 2.23 (GNU C Library), the C library that provides system calls, in addition to other basic functions that are shared by multiple applications, both in Linux as in other operating systems such as Unix. It also highlights the large number of corrected errors in the system and compatibility with POSIX.

The Fedora 24 desktop

From Fedora comment that this new version has significantly improved the overall performance of the system, something that remains to be seen, and special attention has also been paid to improving Fedora for teams with ARM architecture, especially those called mini-PCs such as Raspberry Pi.

The final version of Fedora is expected at this time for the month of June, more specifically on the 14th of that month, and at the end of May it will fully enter the Final Freeze phase, which means that new packages will no longer be included nor updates to them except for those that are critical.
