Today in Professional Review we bring you the keyboard of the giants with the Giants Gear K60. This strongly competitive-oriented keyboard arrives stomping. We will tell you!

Giants Gear is a line of competition peripherals that was born from Vodafone Giants, a team known in international E-Sports and based in Spain.

We start as always by analyzing the packaging. We find a matte finish cardboard box with highlights highlighted with a reflection effect for the keyboard image, the Giants Gear imager and the model name, K60.

On the sides of the box, we find the motto of the brand We are giants.

Finally, on the back we find another image of the keyboard fully backlit with RGB Spectra and some of its highlights:

  • TKL compact keyboard: Giants K60 has a compact design that suppresses the numerical keyboard to gain space on the table and facilitate its transport. Backlit Switches - Intense RGB lighting that enables a gaming environment with default base light effects. Mechanical Switches - Mechanical swiches provide optimized actuation force with perfect response time.

Giants K60 is the ultimate compact, backlit mechanical keyboard for competition. Includes Windows key lock option, volume wheel, removable USB cable, 7 dedicated media buttons and NKey Rollover function.

The total content of the box is summarized in:

Giants Gear K60 design

Going to open the box, we find that the K60 is a TKL or tenkeyless keyboard with 88 switches that dispenses with the numeric keyboard to gain space and portability. For those users who have a preference for more compact keyboard formats and input, we say that the K60 looks great.

The keyboard has a natural inclination already in its assembly that optimizes the user's comfort when working with it, the frame is made of black plastic with a matte finish. The switches protrude from the formwork while the switch mechanism is hidden underneath it.

If we turn it around we find that it has a total of four non-slip rubber surfaces, six if we count the lifting pins that offer a second position option when using the keyboard.

The also plastic back cover features a fluted texture in which right in the center we find the keyboard serial number along with the model name K60 and the Giants Gear logo. All this is accompanied by the relevant quality certificates.

Kailh Red Switches

The switches that we find on this keyboard are ABS and from the well-known Kailh brand, specifically the Red variety. This model of switch is linear and strongly focused on gaming, although it is also very convenient when it comes to typing. Requires an action force of 50 grams.

We can also find in the keyboard design details such as the stamping of the Giants gaming GG logo both on the Esc key and by replacing the Fn (function) button. Stamped on the side of the tab we find the brand's motto: We are giants. The keyboard also has a Windows lock button to avoid accidents during games.

Dedicated multimedia buttons

Another notable aspect of the Gaming Gear K60 is that it has dedicated multimedia buttons. These are located on the top edge of the keyboard and have a circular finish in shiny black plastic. Apart from these buttons we also find a fluted wheel on the right where we can also regulate the volume apart from the other included buttons.

The wire

Above the cable, it has a length of 1.65m. It is lined in braided fiber and has a very resistant and slightly rigid touch that makes it difficult to tangle. It is also noteworthy to say that we have a velcro strap both to keep it tucked behind our desk and for transport.

Something that we love is that the cable is removable, so when it comes to moving it from here to there you will not have to worry so much about taking care of the connection areas. However, the direction of the rear cable is in the right third but is skewed to the left. This has its advantages and disadvantages:

  • Advantage: we can not worry about putting pressure on the rear contact of the cable on the keyboard, since the structure that covers the connector is deviated and protects the port.
  • Disadvantage: If your tower is on the right (like a server's) you should leave a certain space for the cable to allow it to "turn" in the direction you need instead of continuing to the left.

This is something that does not happen in connectors that simply come out backwards, we leave it up to the personal preference of the user to assess the convenience of its position.

The keyboard port is a micro USB while at the other end we find a standard gold-plated USB to optimize its connectivity.

Using the Giants Gear K60 keyboard

The Giants keyboard has a very nice touch and format. One downside for those users who want to write to others to play is that the K60 does not have a sneak LED when we use capital letters. We are aware that this is a competition keyboard and typing is not its main objective, but seeing details such as the dedicated volume wheel and multimedia buttons, we think that an LED (even if it was integrated in the same key) would not have been plus.

The keys do not offer great resistance and their Kailh Red perform smoothly. The change from a keyboard with Outemu switches to Kailh is perceived favorably. The keystroke feels more consistent, and the fact that the mechanism is discreetly hidden under the sleek cover from which only the switches protrude causes them to generate a slightly lower pitched sound when pressed, which we liked quite a bit. In our experience of more than two weeks of use, ghosting has been non-existent.

RGB lighting

The RGB lighting of the Giants keyboard has all the classic characteristics that we are used to. We have the possibility to choose between 13 different lighting effects on the fly combining Fn + INSERT. The reading of the backlit switches is very clear and in the secondary elements of the switch (symbols, etco) they receive enough light to be read even if they are slightly dimmed since they are not immediately on the spotlight.

The illumination of the dedicated multimedia buttons is pulsing and cyclical RGB.

In addition to this, we can choose between five predefined game key lighting modes combining Fn and numbers from one to five. The key lighting in this mode is directed to the most classic options used in MOBAs and FPS, but all customizable.

The speed and brightness of these effects is also configurable.

To put the icing on the cake apart from all of the above, we have the software that comes with the keyboard and we can download it from the Giants Gear website.

The software is extremely easy to use and to the delight of all those users who are not fans of the programs running in the background, thanks to the internal memory of the keyboard we can execute it to make the changes that will be saved in it and uninstall it if so desired. we want. This allows us a lot of flexibility, since we will not have to configure the keyboard every time we connect it to a computer.

Within the software we find two sections: light configuration and macros.

  • The lighting settings can be established in up to three different profiles and we are shown the complete list of light modes as well as their speed. Macros are a list of key combinations to perform fully editable actions.

Finally, we want to highlight the lighting function for the game mode:

There are five different and fully editable game modes. In each of them we can choose which keys we want to light up and what color. Each of these combinations can be saved and accessed using Fn + 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5.

Although the entire keyboard appears illuminated in the software, the rest of the buttons will actually be off and only the ones we have selected will illuminate.

Final words and conclusions about the Giants Gear K60 keyboard

The overall impressions we have of the K60 after two weeks of use are quite good. It is true that the Kailh are not the most cutting-edge switches on the market and that the keyboard shell is plastic and not brushed aluminum, but these decisions make sense once you reflect on it.

Giants Gear has kept a price lower than € 90 for a RGB backlit gaming keyboard, which would be more difficult with Cherry MX or Gateron switches. On the other hand, since it is designed to be transportable (let's not forget the removable braided cable and the shape and coating of the connectors), aluminum has not been used in its structure either so as not to increase its weight.

We found a comfortable keyboard, the dedicated multimedia buttons are a nice touch, and the feel of the switches is very familiar. For users who come from Outemu switches they will notice an improvement in the contact. We consider it to be a competitive keyboard considering the benefits it offers given its price. Its recommended price is 79.90 euros and you can buy it from its own website.
