For the presentation of this Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9, the manufacturer has been safe, and it is presented to us in a thick cardboard box of large dimensions with a huge AORUS logo and a silkscreen in black and orange. It is not a luxury presentation, but the protection will be assured, which is the important thing.

This gaming laptop is one of the new creations that implements Nvidia's Turing technology with real-time ray tracing. A range of laptops that are intended for the most demanding gamers with high performance and as we can see, a gala design full of connectivity and lighting.

Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9 has a very compact design, but it is not a Max-Q notebook. In the case of a gaming device, the manufacturer has preferred to opt for a greater thickness and to introduce a high-performance cooling system inside.

With a base color in black and all the exterior finish made of aluminum, the sensations of quality and Premium product are first class. Its measurements are 361 x 246 x 24.4 mm, and a weight of 2.4 Kg. Really compact measurements in the case of a 15.6-inch laptop.

With NAHIMIC 3 software, we can customize the surround audio properties for our headphones and thus provide them with a better immersion in the game. We definitely recommend installing this software to get the most out of it.

We end the external section with the description and feelings that the keyboard of this Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9 has left us. It is a membrane keyboard with large, spaced island-style keys, all featuring Gigabyte RGB Fusion lighting technology and perfectly customizable using the brand's factory-installed software.

We must say that the touch of the keys is very good, with a smooth half-touch and no sound. The only downside that we see is the extension of the keys and the separation between them, which you really have to get used to in order not to make wrong clicks.

We will also have a full range of dual functionality on the "F" keys, as well as a numeric keypad and an interesting button in the upper right corner to configure the speed of the cooling fans. Good job for AORUS in this regard.

The touchpad is also high-end with a much wider configuration than the best of the previous range and designed to enhance the touch experience. With multiple gestures, very good feeling buttons and a perfect click. We fully consider it to meet the demands on a notebook of this caliber.

Internal features and hardware

This Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9 features the latest Intel processing technology, high processing power and low TDP with these new Intel Coffee Lake mobile. In this case the team mounts an Intel Core i7-8750H with a total of 6 cores and 12 processing threads and 9 MB of L3 cache at a speed of 2.2 GHz, but capable of reaching 4.1 GHz in Turbo mode Boost. Behind this high-level processor we find 16 GB of Samsung DDR4 2666 MHz RAM in 8 GB modules and working in dual channel. This implies that we can increase this capacity to 32 Gb without problems.

But of course, we are dealing with a gaming laptop, so the fundamental section to which we must attend is the graphic. In this model, specifically the Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9-7ES0252W, we have a Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB DDR6 graphics card with a Max-Q design. On our trip to Madrid at the official presentation of some of these RTX laptops, we learned that the performance that these GPUs offered was 70% compared to the desktop, consuming only a third.

In this RTX 2060 we have a GPU of 1110 MHz in base mode and 1335 MHz in turbo mode, under a 192-bit interface and with 1920 CUDA cores, 160 TMUs and 48 ROPs, consuming only 80 W of power. Undoubtedly performance almost at the level of desktop, and we will find out immediately with performance tests.

Finally we must talk about the battery of this Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9 and of course its cooling system. In this product we have not chosen to disassemble its lower part, mainly because the cooling system is quite visible without the opening. This PVC plastic casing stands out for its huge ventilation grills, which thanks to the fact that they have legs that are slightly raised from the ground, allow air to enter through this part towards the fans.

The dissipation system itself is impressive, with two high-power turbine-type fans, along with 6 thick copper heatpipes that collect heat directly from the CPU and GPU to spread the heat over the entire surface occupied by the fans.

The capacity is impressive, since with Aida 64 subjecting this team to maximum stress for 60 minutes, we have not managed to make it exceed 63 degrees in the CPU and 55 degrees in the GPU, starting from about 40 and 37 degrees respectively. What's more, it has not even been necessary for this system to reach its maximum dissipation rate, so a 10/10 for AORUS.

Finally we have the 62 Wh Li-Polymer battery. This has allowed us an autonomy of 1 hour with Aida 64 subjecting the CPU and GPU to maximum stress, we must say that it is not too much, but the powerful hardware that comes installed consumes its own, plus the cooling system, which produces a maximum noise of no less than 63 dB, imagine the power of those fans.

Performance and storage tests

We now turn to perform performance tests with this Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9, with a few games with high consumption of resources. These tests have been carried out with the power supply connected so that the equipment offers maximum performance.

Without trap or cardboard, here we have the technical characteristics of the hardware that moves this AORUS. A beautiful Nvidia RTX 2060 with 80W TDP and a Core i7 with 9MB L3 cache and 6 cores with 45W TDP.

Now we will see the results in benchmarks with the Cinebench R15, PCMark 8 and 3DMark programs in the Time Spy and Fire Strike Extreme tests.

We see impressive results for being a laptop, bordering on 1000 points in the CPU, 7152 points in Fire Strike Extreme and 6117 points in Time Spy, staying close to the 7543 that the RTX 2060 desktop gave, although of course with a Core i9 -9900K which is more powerful.

What we mean is that indeed the work that Nvidia has done with these new laptop RTX is spectacular, with performance very close to a desktop PC.

Let's now turn to see the results of this Gigabyte AORUS 15 W9 for a list of 5 games with very high demands at a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels and with the maximum graphic properties in each of the games. Its 15.6-inch screen and 144 Hz IPS panel are provide spectacular image quality, those 60 Hz limits are far from previous generation notebooks. Due to the high pixel density on this reduced diagonal, it seems that we are dealing with a 2K resolution. Under personal experience, the keyboard is very good, although with somewhat large and separate keys, so you have to get used to them and put your fingers slightly more open than normal. The touch of it and the touchpad is sensational, with abundant function keys and multiple touch gestures.

As expected, the biggest niche of this, and other RTX gaming laptops is its price, we are talking about 2, 100 euros, which is certainly not turkey mucus. Nor should we forget that there are two other RTXs higher than this 2060 and we are facing a Full HD resolution. Despite this, this is a general rule in practically all RTX models, so there is.
