In the market we find a multitude of gaming laptops with some very interesting features, today we bring you the review of the Gigabyte Saber 15, one of the latest models from the prestigious manufacturer for the mid-range and that will provide excellent performance thanks to the combination of Nvidia graphics. GeForce and an Intel Core Kaby Lake processor.
We thank Gigabyte for trusting us with the product for its review:Gigabyte Saber 15 technical characteristics
Unboxing and design
The Gigabyte Saber 15 comes very well protected in a box, the equipment is accommodated by two pieces of high-quality cork and covered by a plastic bag to prevent deterioration before reaching the hands of the end user.
The bundle consists of the laptop, the drivers and software disk, the manual and the power adapter.
Gigabyte Saber 15 is a very compact portable computer with dimensions of just 378 x 267 x 26.9 mm and a weight of 2.5 Kg. Gigabyte has opted for a very elegant chassis made of high quality plastic and in black. Its compact design makes it a device that is also valid for those users who need to move around infrequently and want to always have their work system at hand.
We continue with the keyboard, Gigabyte has opted for membrane technology although it has optimized the buttons to the maximum to reduce the travel to just 2 mm, its buttons are scissor type to offer an excellent experience of use. Of course it has RGB LED lighting to help us see the letters in the dark and give it a very attractive touch.
We continue with the review!
One of the most important aspects of a laptop is the screen, the Gigabyte Saber 15 does not neglect this section with a 15.6-inch panel equipped with WVA technology that provides much better colors and viewing angles (up to 160º) than traditional panels. TN. A very short response time has also been achieved for a blur and ghosting-free experience.
Many users connect their laptop to an external display for their gaming sessions, the Gigabyte Saber 15 includes two Mini DisplayPort ports for this purpose. One of them is attached to the Nvidia GPU and allows a maximum resolution of 4K at 120 FPS. The other port is attached to Intel's integrated GPU and also offers a maximum of 4K. We continue talking about the ports with the presence of a reversible USB 3.1 Type-C connector and that offers a bandwidth of up to 10 Gb / s, double the USB 3.0 specification.
View of the rear area, where it expels all the hot air.
We also want to show you the floor of the laptop, where we find a non-slip rubber and enough grids that allow better cooling. We must completely detach the cover to access the inside of the laptop (if we want to update it), so we would lose the warranty.
The compact design has not prevented the manufacturer from mounting high-performance hardware inside, we started with an Intel Core i7 7700HQ processor that consists of four cores and eight threads at a base frequency of 2.8 GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.8 GHz. Its Kaby Lake architecture makes it a very efficient chip and capable of getting the most out of Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050/1050 Ti graphics with a maximum of 4 GB of GDDR5 VRAM and a great capacity to move all current games.
The processor improves the productivity of the previous generation by 13% and allows a great multimedia experience with a video playback time of up to 10 hours in Full HD resolution. It also includes support for HEVC 10 bit video encoding and decoding and Google VP9. All this is accompanied by up to 32 GB of DDR4 2400 RAM in dual channel configuration to improve performance.
In the storage section it is also very well served with the possibility of combining up to 1 TB of SSD and up to 2 TB of HDD so that we can enjoy all the advantages of both technologies in the same equipment and in a very practical way. Your SSD has NVMe technology to achieve read and write rates up to four times higher than a SATA III-based SSD.
Sound is another of the great aspects of the Gigabyte Saber 15, Sound Blaster Cinema 3 technology has been developed together with SBX Pro Studio to offer a holistic sound experience of great realism. It includes Reality 3D technology to offer virtual 7.1 and 5.1 sound that will help you position enemies on the battlefield. Includes two 2W speakers.
Test of performance
Regarding performance tests we have passed Cinebench R15 and the result is fantastic thanks to its i7-7700HQ processor that shoots up to 736 CB points. A result at the height of almost any desktop for gaming.
Finally we leave you the performance tests with several very demanding titles and the most played of the moment. We have chosen to only pass the games to the native resolution: 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) so that you can see what good performance it offers as is.
Final words and conclusion about Gigabyte Saber 15
The new Gigabyte Saber 15 is one of the most interesting options offered by the market for cheap gaming laptops. It features an i7-7700HQ processor, a GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, 8GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM memory, a 15.6-inch panel, and high-quality plastic build quality.
In our tests we have been able to verify that we can play almost any game in Full HD at more than 60 FPS. Only the Crysis 3 (one of the worst optimized games) and the Tomb Raider 2016 have resisted us.
It should also be noted that we have used our HTC Vive glasses without any problem with the titles we have in our catalog. The experience is always great, although it is true that somewhat more demanding games in the short term will require a better graphics card. But to start, great?
We recommend reading the best laptops on the market.
Regarding temperatures and consumption, it is logical. In general, it cools very well and the sound level is low. Having a seventh generation processor and a Pascal graphics card, the consumption is very low, giving a more than interesting autonomy to last several hours working.
Its price in stores ranges from 1, 000 euros to 1, 300 euros (depending on the model) and purchase store. If you choose the most basic we are sure that you will be very happy. It is a great alternative in this price range.
