The arrival of Google Play Protect was greeted with users with relief. After months in which too many malicious applications had been detected in the application store, this tool was presented as a good solution. Last September it was already available to all users. But, since then there have been quite a few problems with this tool.

Google Play Protect detects less malware than other antivirus

An independent laboratory has been commissioned to analyze the performance of Google Play Protect and thus verify its effectiveness. The results are the least disappointing for Google's security tool. It is the least effective shield currently available. What has gone wrong?

Google Play Protect does not protect

Popular antivirus programs such as Avast, BitDefender, Norton, Sophos, Cheetah Mobile or PSafe have been analyzed in this study. Of all those analyzed by the laboratory, Google Play Protect is the only one that has obtained a score of 0 out of 6 in terms of protection. Experts have commented that it detects less malware than any other antivirus. A serious failure, because that is precisely the work of this tool.

In terms of results, it has managed to detect 65.8% of threats in real time and 79.2% of threats that were known for four weeks or less. The figures do not seem bad, but compared to the other antivirus, which reach 100% in both cases, they fall short.

In its favor, it must be said that Google Play Protect is still a very young tool. That means there is a lot of room for improvement, or at least there should be. But, it also disappoints, especially since it has been advertised as a reliable malware tool at all times. What do you think?
