[Confirmed] gtx 1060 with gddr5x memory will use gpu gp104
Table of contents:
The arrival of GTX 1060 graphics cards in a new variant with GDDR5X was confirmed late last month in what appears to be an attempt to slow down the RX 590. Be that as it may, the question that was installed was whether this graphics card would use a new GPU, which has finally been confirmed.
GeForce GTX 1060 uses a trimmed GP104 (GTX 1080) core
Basically what Nvidia has done is use the same core as the GTX 1080, but cut it back, with far fewer CUDA cores enabled for the GTX 1060. In other words, NVIDIA found a way to sell chips with just half of the GPU's processing cores, under the brand GTX 1060. In this way, they were able to more easily adapt the new GDDR5X memory.
Oddly, even the SLI port remains on this card, which begs a big question: will it work? Most likely not, but we are not 100% sure without official confirmation.
The card in question that we can see in the image is the iGame GTX 1060 U-TOP V2, which includes a three-fan cooling solution, dual 8-pin power connectors and an 8 + 2 phase design. The latter also calls our attention, the use of two 8-pin connectors for a mid-range graphics card like the GTX 1060 seems excessive, at least, for this model.
As we asked ourselves on a previous occasion , is this enough to compete against the AMD RX 590? We will know in a short time.
