In the latest benchmark that has emerged on the GTX 1060, it was placed below its competitor the AMD RX 480. Of course, at that time the test was performed under a title with DirectX 12 (Ashes of the Singularity) that demonstrated how graphics based on the Pascal kernel perform below their means with this new API and asynchronous computation, not only in DirectX 12 but also in Vulkan, as seen in DOOM tests.

GTX 1060 reaffirms its superiority over RX 480 in new tests

Now the Wccftech people have shown some fairly complete new performance tests where a direct comparison is made between the GTX 1060 and the RX 480 in different scenarios with DirectX 11 games like Crysis 3, GTA V or Fallout and in DirectX 12 games, where surprisingly the product of Nvidia takes advantage.

As we can see in the benchmarks, in DirectX 12 games such as Forza Motorsport 6: Apex or Rise of the Tomb Raider, the GTX 1060 surpasses the AMD option by 20% to 25% playing in 1080p.

When we look at the table of games in DirectX 11, that 20% advantage is still given in some cases like Crysis 3 or Metro: Last Light and increases up to 33% more performance in GTA V.

What seems clear at this point is that the Nvidia option for the mid-range is more powerful than the RX 480 but it is also more expensive, at this point the AMD option is available for 260 euros (approximately) in Spain, while it is rumored that the GTX 1060 would be above 300 euros, so the price here will be decisive for the future of both. Nvidia's new mid-range option will be available in stores starting July 19.
